The Department of Fish and Wildlife's Northern Region Administrative Services Program has an opening for a Program Technician in the Northern Region Headquarters office in Redding. The Program Technician provides daily customer service in person, by phone and through email on a variety of topics related to fishing and hunting in Northern California. The incumbent in this position will assist the public by answering questions and routing calls to subject matter experts on a variety of topics including: wildlife sightings, where to go fishing and hunting, fishing and hunting regulations, licenses and validations, living with nuisance wildlife, plant identification, commercial fishing regulations, and much more! The incumbent will also process payments for Lake and Streambed Alteration Permits, Private Land Management fees and various license items. The incumbent will log all Cooperative Elk and Deer Tag Applications, and coordinate with staff in the Wildlife Program, applicants, and designated hunters to issue tags. The incumbent will also assist with processing outgoing mail and ordering office supplies. Personal Leave Program: Effective July 1, 2025, state employees are subject to temporary salary reductions ranging from 2% to 4.62% in exchange for Personal Leave Program (PLP) hours. Working Conditions
Work typically takes place in an office setting under artificial light. Daily, frequent use of computers, keyboards, mice, phones, fax, copier and scanners. Long periods of time standing or sitting at a computer, standing and walking for brief periods of time. Ability to work in an environment with the occasional presence of animal carcasses and skulls that are brought in for validation, undesirable smells, and weapons. Occasional travel up to 5% for meetings or training classes. Use of a state-owned vehicle for travel is required where public transportation is not readily available.
