Nursing Clinical Educator-Decentralized - Intensive Care Unit/Critical Care.MAIN FUNCTION:As part of the department leadership team, the Nursing Clinical Educator, Decentralized plays a critical part in elevating practice, advancing quality outcomes, and supporting the development of high‑performing staff. The Nursing Clinical Educator, Decentralized is responsible for the planning and provision of educational offerings for all nursing staff through supporting the foundational aspects of entry into practice, as well as continuing education of experienced staff. The Nursing Clinical Educator, Decentralized is responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of educational needs and initiatives to enhance the quality of patient care. This position will work collaboratively with departmental leadership and work to continuously improve both the patient and staff experience in their respective area(s). The Nursing Clinical Educator effectively provides and promotes person-centered care, nursing best practices, and staff engagement in a commitment to excellence.ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Reports to the Department of Education and assumes responsibility for staff education in cooperation with Nursing Leadership and the Department of Education.Uses evidenced based practice to guide decisions and development of new initiatives, practices changes and implementation. Responsible for simulations/drills and the maintenance of equipment and supplies used for simulation and drills.Collaborates with the Nurse Manager and nursing leadership team on educational programs and required updates. Recommends orientation, training and education programs that will enhance employee performance, satisfaction and continued development.Provides education in an organized manner to all staff. Educates and updates staff on policy changes, new equipment, and process changes within departments and the organization.Assists the Nurse Manager(s) to coordinate the orientation and onboarding process of new employees at the unit level and serves as a resource for preceptors in collaboration with the Department of Education. Meets routinely with new staff and preceptor(s) to evaluate progression. Participates in or assists with the evaluation of new employees at 30, 60, and 90 days.Meets routinely with new staff and preceptors to evaluate progression.Ensures orientation and continuing education, preparation and implementation to meet all regulatory requirements including: The Joint Commission, NYS Department of Health, all department specific requirements. and regulatory requirements for the specific area.Assesses, supervises, evaluates, and provides feedback to staff on compliance and evidence-based protocols. Measures, documents, and supports competency of staff.Identifies and addresses deficiencies in staff competence in collaboration with unit leadership. Collaborates to ensure timely completion of ongoing competencies for allParticipates in auditing documentation, electronic record optimization, and competency compliance and provides staff education accordingly.Participates in the peer review process and interviews staff and other peers as assignedParticipates in unit based, Division of Nursing, Department of Education, and Medical Center committees as needed.Responsible for updates and renewals of unit-based policies in collaboration with the Providers, Nursing Leadership Team and necessary stakeholders.Acts as role model for staff in upholding the mission and vision of the organization.It is understood that this job description lists typical duties for the classification and is not considered inclusive of all duties which may be assigned.REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE: Current NYS nursing licensure.Minimum of 3 years of appropriate nursing practiceBSN RequiredCurrent certification in BLS, ACLS, PALS, NRP, and Association of Women's Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses (AWHONN) Electronic Fetal Monitoring, as applicable to area workedInstructor certification in BLS, ACLS, PALS, NRP, and Association of Women's Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses (AWHONN) Electronic Fetal Monitoring, as required below and as applicable to area worked, with a minimum goal of teaching enough classes to maintain fluencyPREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:MSN in Nursing, Medical Administration, or Education preferredCertification in specialty areaPHYSICAL DEMANDS:Repetitive use of hands and fingers (e.g., Use of computer keyboard); may require lifting and carrying light loads (up to 40 lbs), including boxes, equipment, IV solutions and stooping and kneeling (e.g., to pick up items from the floor, to remove and replace items on lower shelves and to file documents in lower file drawers); sitting, walking, or standing for long periods of time may be necessary; must be able physically to operate the equipment used for the job.EXPOSURE CATEGORY: Category I.
