Responsibilities

  • Perform blood draws and specimen collections from diverse patient populations, including pediatric and geriatric patients.
  • Ensure specimens are prepared correctly for laboratory testing according to established procedures.
  • Provide excellent customer service by explaining procedures and creating a trusting environment for patients.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and data entry related to blood collection and specimen tracking.
  • Act as a resource and mentor to new staff and provide support for team coordination across multiple locations.
  • Assist in coverage across various settings such as patient service centers, mobile units, long-term care facilities, or in-office environments.
  • Prioritize and handle multiple high-volume tasks efficiently while maintaining a focus on process excellence and confidentiality.
  • Support the team by stepping into leadership roles when needed, including coaching, mentoring, and onboarding new team members.
  • Collaborate with various departments such as laboratory services, billing, IT connectivity, and logistics to facilitate comprehensive patient care and test processing.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience in phlebotomy, including pediatric and geriatric blood draws, with a minimum of five years preferred.
  • Ability to perform capillary collections with precision and safety.
  • Strong customer service skills and effective verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Accurate data entry and specimen labeling skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities in a high-volume setting.

Additional Skills & Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Medical training such as a medical assistant or paramedic background preferred.
  • Phlebotomy certification preferred; required in California, Nevada, and Washington.
  • Minimum of three years experience in a patient service center or in-office laboratory environment preferred.
  • Customer service experience in a retail or service setting is a plus.
  • Keyboard and data entry experience.
  • Ability to work across multiple locations, supporting different roles and functions as needed.
