Manager, Market Surveillance

A global financial institution is seeking a Trade Surveillance Manager to join a growing compliance and surveillance function supporting commodities and energy trading activities. This role will play a key part in strengthening market conduct oversight, regulatory risk management, and surveillance effectiveness across global trading operations.

Role Summary

The Trade Surveillance Manager will oversee the day-to-day execution of trade and communications surveillance activities with a strong emphasis on regulatory compliance, market integrity, and conduct risk management across OTC commodities and energy markets.

This individual will lead complex investigations into potentially suspicious trading activity, evaluate regulatory and policy adherence, and ensure findings are appropriately documented, escalated, and remediated. The role will also serve as a key escalation point for higher-risk matters and provide guidance to junior surveillance professionals to ensure consistency, quality, and timeliness of investigative work.

Working closely with regional and global Compliance teams, the successful candidate will help maintain and enhance surveillance coverage aligned with regulatory obligations and internal control standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee daily trade and communications surveillance activities across commodities and energy trading businesses
• Conduct and manage investigations involving potential market abuse, manipulation, or other conduct-related concerns within OTC markets
• Review surveillance alerts, trading patterns, communications, and transactional data to identify potential regulatory or policy breaches
• Assess risks related to market conduct, regulatory compliance, and internal control effectiveness
• Escalate significant issues and support remediation efforts where necessary
• Provide mentorship and guidance to junior surveillance team members on investigative techniques, documentation standards, and regulatory expectations
• Partner with Compliance, Legal, Risk, and business stakeholders to support consistent surveillance practices and governance standards
• Contribute to ongoing enhancements of surveillance processes, controls, and investigative methodologies

Qualifications

• 6–8 years of experience within commodities and energy markets, with strong exposure to OTC trading environments and regulatory compliance risk
• Demonstrated experience in trade surveillance, market conduct investigations, and regulatory frameworks relevant to commodities markets
• Strong understanding of market abuse and manipulation risks, trading controls, and regulatory expectations across trading and client activity
• Familiarity with regulations and regulatory bodies such as CFTC, FERC, exchange rules, or comparable international frameworks
• Strong analytical and investigative capabilities, including experience interpreting surveillance alerts, reconstructing trading activity, and evaluating communications data
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present findings clearly and effectively
• Ability to operate independently in a fast-paced, highly regulated environment while managing multiple priorities simultaneously
