EDMX 627: Assessment for Planning and Instruction Position: Lecturer Semester: Fall 2026 Day/Time: Wednesday, 5:30 p.m. to 8:20 p.m. Modality: In-Person College: College of Education, Health & Human Services Department: School of Education The School of Education at California State University San Marcos invites applications for instructors to teach EDMX 627: Assessment, Planning and Instruction in Special Education in Fall 2026. The course meets on Wednesday evening from 5:30 to 8:20 p.m. and is an in-person, lecture‑based course. The candidate should have experience in teaching Mild to Moderate Support Needs and Extensive Support Needs in TK‑12 setting, as well as extensive experience with both formal and informal special education academic achievement assessments, assessment report writing, Individual Education Program (IEP) development, and instructional planning. A master’s degree is the minimum requirement for this position. Preferred requirements for the position include a Ph.D. or equivalent and Clear Education Specialist Credential(s). Course Description This course focuses on methods of assessment and instructional planning to support students with disabilities, language differences, and other learning needs in accessing the general education curriculum. Candidates should have experience administering, interpreting, and utilizing formal and informal assessments to develop, implement, and evaluate Individualized Education Programs (IEPs). The course emphasizes evidence‑based assessment practices, data‑driven instructional planning, and collaboration to promote inclusive educational environments. Minimum Qualifications A master’s degree in education or special education, or a closely related field. Per the California State University’s Out-of-State Employment Policy, the CSU is prohibited from hiring employees to perform CSU‑related work outside California. Working in the State of California is a condition of employment. Preferred Qualifications A doctorate or equivalent. Experience teaching in higher education. Demonstrated commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion in education. Recent experience teaching in public TK‑12 classrooms/special education. Knowledge of and experience with restorative practices, Universal Design for Learning, Multi‑tiered Systems of Support, and Individual Education Programs. Valid California Special Education teaching credential. Familiarity with California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CCTC) standards for special education credentials. Preference will be given to applicants who demonstrate intercultural competence and a commitment to serving our campus community as it relates to teaching and, as applicable, service. Salary Anticipated Hiring Salary Range: $5,507 - $6,677 per full‑time month. CSU Classification Salary Range Lecturer A - AY: $5,507 - $6,677 per full‑time month. CSU Classification Salary Range Lecturer B - AY: $6,221 - $13,224 per full‑time month.
