C Tech (Entry-Level Auto Technician)

C Techs handle basic maintenance and assist senior techs while building foundational skills.

• Summary: Perform routine services, inspections, and minor repairs under supervision. Maintain a clean, safe work area and follow standard procedures and documentation.
• Key Responsibilities:
• • Complete oil and filter changes, tire rotations, mounting/balancing, battery tests/replacement, bulb/wiper replacements.
  • Perform multi-point inspections and document findings with photos and notes.
  • Conduct basic diagnostics using scan tools to retrieve codes; escalate complex issues.
  • Maintain shop equipment, tools, and bay cleanliness; comply with safety protocols.
  • 0–1+ years in an automotive environment (shop, vocational program, or internship).
  • Basic hand tools; ability to lift 50+ lbs and operate shop equipment safely.
  • Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record.

B Tech (Intermediate Auto Technician)

B Techs perform most repairs independently, including mechanical systems, moderate diagnostics, and reconditioning.

• Summary: Diagnose and repair drivability, brake, suspension, HVAC, and electrical issues with limited supervision. Mentor C Techs and contribute to workflow efficiency and quality.
• Key Responsibilities:
• • Perform brake services, steering/suspension repairs, alignments, cooling/heating system repairs, timing belts/chains on non-interference engines, and general mechanical work.
  • Conduct intermediate diagnostics: interpret DTCs, analyze data PIDs, perform pinpoint tests and voltage drop checks, repair wiring/connectors.
  • Road-test vehicles to confirm concerns and validate repairs.
  • Document cause/correction thoroughly.
• Qualifications:
• • 2–5+ years professional automotive experience or equivalent.
  • Strong understanding of electrical fundamentals and scan tool usage.
  • ASE certifications in several areas (e.g., A1 Engine Repair, A4 Suspension/Steering, A5 Brakes, A6 Electrical) preferred but not required.
  • Ability to read OEM service information, wiring diagrams, and TSBs.
  • Clean driver’s license; ability to lift 50+ lbs and meet physical demands.

Tech (A Tech / Master-Level Auto Technician)

Top-level technicians handle advanced diagnostics, complex repairs, and lead technical standards and training.

• Summary: Lead diagnosis and repair of complex drivability, advanced electrical/can bus, engine/transmission systems. Serve as a technical authority and quality control point.
• Key Responsibilities:
• • Perform advanced diagnostics: scope-based analysis, waveform interpretation, network diagnostics, parasitic draw testing, and intermittent fault isolation.
  • Execute complex repairs: engine and transmission R&R and programming, variable valve timing, direct injection, turbo/supercharger systems.
  • Lead quality control inspections and final road-tests; verify repair integrity.
  • Collaborate with service advisors on accurate estimates and timelines; communicate root cause and repair plan.
  • Mentor B and C Techs; share best practices, and support safety/compliance.
  • Maintain equipment calibration and recommend tooling/training investments.
• Qualifications:
• • 5–10+ years as a professional technician with demonstrable advanced diagnostic capability.
  • Multiple ASE certifications; ASE Master Technician and L1/L3 (Advanced Engine Performance/EV) strongly preferred but not required.
  • Proficiency with lab scopes, OEM scan suites, programming tools, wiring diagrams, service information systems.
  • Strong documentation and communication skills; clean driver’s license.
