Civil Case Coordinator - Non-Merit

Job Title

Regular Schedule: 35 hours per week. A full-time, non-merit vacancy, with full County benefits, exists in the Circuit Court of Baltimore County. Examples Of Duties

Definition of Responsibility Assist in implementation of the Differentiated Case Management (DCM) plans for civil (non-domestic) and domestic cases (pursuant to Maryland Rule 16-202b). Assign cases to appropriate scheduling tracks under the DCM plan. Assists the Central Assignment Office, judges, and magistrates in conducting virtual and in-person scheduling conferences and may lead scheduling conferences as needed. Essential Job Duties Assigns civil cases to appropriate scheduling tracks pursuant to the Court's DCM plan. Prepares Scheduling Orders for civil cases. Reviews case information reports, case histories, and files to screen civil cases for scheduling conferences. Screens civil cases for mediation and assigns appropriate mediators. Coordinates with the Civil Assignment Department and Settlement Court to maintain calendars for judges and magistrates. Assists the Central Assignment Office, judges, and magistrates in conducting virtual and in-person scheduling conferences and may lead scheduling conferences as needed. Schedules settlement conferences, hearings, and other court events; conducts virtual status conferences; responds to telephone and in-person inquiries from attorneys and the public. Assists self-represented parties with procedural matters at the Access to Justice Resource Center. Maintains and analyzes internal scheduling tracking spreadsheets. Provides coverage for the Civil ADR Coordinator, Settlement Court and the Domestic DCM Office as needed. Reports to the Civil Case Manager.

Qualifications

Associate's degree, from an accredited college or university Plus One year of experience in a court, law office, or ADR related field. An additional two years of relevant experience can be substituted for the Associate's degree. Preferred Qualifications Three or more years of experience in a court, law office, or ADR related field. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Individuals to be considered for this position should have a thorough knowledge of court procedures including the processing of civil cases. Must have the ability to plan effectively and communicate well with attorneys, judges, the public, and staff; and must possess familiarity with automated case management systems, preferably the Odyssey Case Management System. Knowledge of Microsoft Office products including Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel preferred. This person must be highly capable of carrying out court policies on a continual basis. This person must be comfortable with public speaking and leading conferences. The ideal candidate is flexible and able to be cross trained on the duties of the Domestic DCM Office and the Settlement Court. This position requires the ability to work closely with other staff in the DCM Office and other departments as a team, as well as the ability to work independently and manage time effectively.

Conditions Of Employment

This position is a non-merit unclassified position with the Circuit Court for Baltimore County and subject to the personnel policies and procedures adopted by the Court. Physical and Environmental Conditions The work of this classification is essentially sedentary but may include occasional walking, standing, lifting of boxes, or other limited physical activities.
