Location: Remote/Hybrid (with travel up to 30%)

Overview:
Symbiotic Services is seeking an experienced Director of State Government Affairs to lead and implement public policy strategies across a multi-state region in the U.S. The ideal candidate will be proactive, strategic, and skilled at influencing legislative and regulatory environments to support business objectives. This role involves high-level interaction with legislators, regulators, advocacy groups, and trade associations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the company's regional stateand local government affairs strategy.
  • Serve as the primary liaison withelected officials, regulatory bodies, and industry stakeholders.
  • Monitor, analyze, and respond topolicy developments and emerging legislative issues.
  • Manage external consultants andensure alignment with company priorities.
  • Develop strategic responses toproposed legislation or regulations.
  • Provide detailed reports andstrategic recommendations to senior leadership.
  • Build and maintain relationshipswith local political organizations and advocacy groups.
  • Represent the company in industrycoalitions and trade associations.
  • Support event planning, budgetforecasting, and internal communication efforts.
  • Define and measure keyperformance indicators related to government affairs.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in PoliticalScience, Public Policy, Law, or a related field.
  • At least 7 years of experience ingovernment affairs, lobbying, or public policy.
  • Deep understanding of U.S. stateand local legislative/regulatory processes.
  • Strong skills in strategicplanning, public speaking, legislative analysis, and relationshipbuilding.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Officeand Microsoft Teams.
  • Ability to communicate complexissues to varied audiences and manage cross-functional teams.
  • Willingness to traveldomestically up to 30% and attend early morning/evening events.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in a relatedfield.
  • Experience in a highly regulatedindustry (e.g., tobacco, alcohol, pharmaceuticals).
  • Background in corporate,legislative, or regulatory settings.
Work Environment:
  • Hybrid role with in-office andremote flexibility.
  • Requires regular use of computer,phone, and occasional travel.
  • Must be comfortable sitting,standing, or walking for extended periods.
