Associate Director of Healthcare, Facility Design

Osborn Engineering is seeking an Associate Director of Healthcare for our Great Lakes Facilities Division. This unique opportunity requires a highly motivated individual interested in managing healthcare engineering projects and assisting with healthcare business development for a long‑standing engineering firm. The ideal candidate will have the ability to manage clients as well as projects while also working with our Director of Healthcare and other Divisional Leaders to develop new healthcare opportunities for the firm. This position would be based out of one of our Great Lakes regional offices: Cleveland, Akron, Detroit, or Pittsburgh. This position would report to the Director of Healthcare and would provide assistance throughout the Great Lakes region. Osborn is a fully integrated multi‑disciplined design firm that uses a specialized team approach to engineering projects. These teams are comprised of a staff of more than 320 professionals that provide designs for all phases of a wide range of projects. Osborn has specialists in civil, structural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection and life safety, technology engineering, transportation and commissioning. Osborn’s strength lies with its people. Position Responsibilities Market all disciplines of Osborn Engineering capabilities to clients. Provide technical direction/oversight on design work within their particular discipline. Interaction with in‑house Engineering project team members. Interact directly with healthcare facility owners, Owner’s Representatives, project managers, construction team members, architects, and related healthcare professional members Attend and actively participate in meetings with clients, authorities having jurisdiction, and other professionals. Project and Client management of multi‑discipline projects within the Great Lakes Facility Division. Prepare proposals and administer project contracts, including Add Service Agreements. Work planning and manage the design process to the available hours in the work plan. Supervise staff and the following: Complete monthly financial performance metrics of projects managed including hours to complete requirements. Manage the preparation of design deliverables for SD, DD, CD level documents. Manage client expectations, project deliverables and project deadlines in conjunction with the project team. Manage the QAQC process and conformance with the Osborn Quality control program. Conduct business development activities, participating in various trade organizations, and preparing or assisting with presentations. Represent the firm in project and client interviews. Work with Division Leadership and the corporate Business Development team to successfully build, develop, and manage clients. Work with Osborn Marketing team in continually updating and providing project narratives to maintain current healthcare qualifications marketing information. Job Requirements/Qualifications Must have at a minimum of 15+ years of experience in the Healthcare field focused on engineering and facilities design and/or actively managed the operation and construction of healthcare facilities. Must have managed the design and execution of construction projects valued at $5M or more. Must have a strong knowledge and application of NFPA 99, 101 and the most recent version of the Facilities Guideline Institute (FGI) to include ASHRAE 170, Ventilation for Healthcare Facilities. Must have strong knowledge and understanding of Joint Commission standards and the Centers for Medicaid & Medicare (CMS) for healthcare as it relates to accreditation standards for healthcare owners. Strong leadership capabilities in leading a team of highly trained personnel to create a comprehensive, integrated work team to execute excellence in healthcare design, diagnostics, and implementation of strategized solutions. On a continuous basis, keep abreast of new technologies, evidence‑based design, code developments, energy efficiency strategies, etc., to be a leader in healthcare design. Aid in the development of both company wide and healthcare strategic planning. Aid in developing a structured mentoring process to aid in the professional development of healthcare engineers and team members to execute excellence in healthcare design. Actively participate in Osborn’s QA/QC process for design. Experience leading teams and working with engineers on facility design and improvement projects.
