About the Role:

The Head Bookkeeper plays a critical leadership role in managing and overseeing the financial record-keeping processes of the organization. This position ensures the accuracy, completeness, and compliance of all bookkeeping activities, providing a reliable foundation for financial reporting and decision-making. The Head Bookkeeper will lead the bookkeeping staff, coordinating daily operations and implementing best practices to optimize efficiency and accuracy. This role requires close collaboration with accounting and finance to support budgeting, audits, and financial analysis. Ultimately, the Head Bookkeeper is responsible for maintaining the integrity of the company’s financial data and supporting the organization’s financial health and regulatory compliance.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
• Minimum of 5 years of bookkeeping experience, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or lead role.
• Proficiency with accounting software such as Appfolio and QuickBooks.
• Strong understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and bookkeeping best practices.
• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Certified Bookkeeper (CB) designation or equivalent certification or 5+ years experience 
• Experience working in a mid-sized or large organization with complex financial transactions.
• Familiarity with payroll systems and tax compliance requirements in the United States.
• Advanced proficiency in Appfolio, Quickbooks, Microsoft Excel and financial reporting tools.
• Experience implementing process improvements and internal controls in bookkeeping functions.

Responsibilities:

• Supervise and manage the daily bookkeeping operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger entries.
• Ensure timely and accurate recording of all financial transactions in accordance with company policies and accounting standards.
• Review and reconcile bank statements, credit card statements, and other financial documents to maintain accurate records.
• Prepare and maintain detailed financial reports and documentation to support internal and external audits.
• Lead, train, and mentor bookkeeping staff to enhance their skills and ensure adherence to best practices.
• Collaborate with the finance and accounting departments to support month-end and year-end closing processes.
• Monitor compliance with tax regulations and assist in the preparation of tax filings and reports.
• Identify opportunities to improve bookkeeping processes and implement efficient workflows and controls.
