Job Summary:


The Registered Nurse in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) provides specialized nursing care to newborns requiring intensive medical attention. This role involves routine baby care, vital signs monitoring, head-to-toe assessments, skin-to-skin contact support, breastfeeding assistance, and performing routine labs. The nurse collaborates closely with the interdisciplinary team and may occasionally float to nursery or baby transition roles depending on delivery volumes. Strong clinical skills, effective communication, and at least 2 years of relevant experience are required. Proficiency with EPIC charting is preferred.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide skilled nursing care to neonates in the NICU, including monitoring vital signs and performing head-to-toe assessments.
  • Support skin-to-skin contact and breastfeeding efforts for newborns and their families.
  • Perform routine laboratory tests and document findings accurately in EPIC.
  • Collaborate with the interdisciplinary healthcare team to develop and implement individualized care plans.
  • Occasionally float to nursery or baby transition roles to care for newborns post-delivery when needed.
  • Maintain compliance with hospital policies and safety standards in a fast-paced acute care environment.
Required Skills & Certifications:

  • Active Registered Nurse license in the working state.
  • Minimum of 2 years of nursing experience, preferably in NICU or related neonatal care.
  • Current BCLS (Basic Cardiac Life Support) certification.
  • Current NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) certification.
  • Proficiency or experience with EPIC electronic medical record system preferred.
Preferred Skills & Certifications:

  • Experience working in a Magnet acute care hospital setting.
  • Familiarity with baby transition nursing and nursery care.
  • Ability to adapt to floating between NICU and nursery units as needed.
Special Considerations:

  • No on-call requirements.
  • Floating between NICU, nursery, and baby transition roles may occur but is not routine.
  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced acute care environment with a 1:2 nurse-to-patient ratio.
  • RTO (Return to Office) restrictions must be included at time of submission.
Scheduling:

  • Work schedule includes weekends equivalent to every other weekend plus two Fridays per six-week schedule.
  • Block scheduling may be accommodated at manager's discretion.
  • Day and night shifts may be assigned as per unit needs.
