Distribution Utility Inspector This role enforces safety, compliance, and quality standards across all project sites, ensures federal, local, and company regulations are met, and maintains strong client relations. Responsibilities Enforce safety, compliance, and quality standards across all project sites. Learn and understand basic federal, local, and company compliance rules. Maintain strong client relations and work respectfully with clients and contractors. Stay organized and manage time effectively throughout the workday. Conduct field observations, verify and document compliance. Record field activities to ensure rules and standards are followed. Inspect gas pipeline installation, joint fusion, leak surveys, backfilling, compaction, trenching, and restoration work. Monitor activities for compliance with OSHA, PHMSA, state utility regulations, and client safety guidelines. Complete daily inspection reports using a company‑provided iPad (photos, forms, time, expenses). Read and follow project plans and procedures, track materials and quantities, and ensure maps and records are accurate. Inspect natural gas pipeline work, such as digging, installing pipe, and backfill/restoration. Assist onsite crews with initial job setup, coordinate with road construction crews, review plans, and address customer concerns. Research records to guide crews and verify field measurements. Document pipeline installations with sketches, notes, and mapping for mains and services. Enter data and create as‑built documentation using Microsoft Excel, Adobe Acrobat, and other programs. Use client systems to manage project information, documentation, and communicate with engineers, designers, and field teams. Help schedule special services, emergency responses, and verifications as needed. Complete required training, including Operator Qualification modules, in a timely manner. Stop work when unsafe conditions are identified and coordinate corrective actions. Ascend/descend into job site areas to complete inspections and data collection. Move materials up to 75 pounds periodically. Position self to access tools and materials in various locations. Traverse job sites with uneven terrain, slopes, confined spaces, or reinforced trenches. Conduct visual assessments of task quality and job site safety. Remain in a stationary position for extended periods if required. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications and Experience High school diploma or equivalent; associate or bachelor’s degree preferred. 1–3 years of experience with construction, underground utility installation, locating, surveying, mapping, and/or design. Strong understanding of OSHA, PHMSA, NESC, and state utility regulations preferred. Knowledge of 49 CFR 192 & 195 regulations preferred. Familiarity with operator qualifications and polyethylene joining methods preferred. Ability to pass pre‑employment and random drug testing. AWS CWI or CPWI+V certification preferred. API 1169 certification preferred. Proficiency in mobile technology (iPad) for reporting and documentation. Knowledge of DataFi reporting tools preferred. Microsoft Suite proficiency (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, SharePoint, OneDrive, etc.). Work Conditions, Schedule, and Location Primarily field‑based; must be comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions. Required to work onsite at a WSB office as needed by project, client, or hiring manager. Reliable transportation required and ability to travel daily within the assigned territory; travel may be required.
