Chief Nursing Officer

Position Summary:Oversees the Nursing Department and ensures the departmental employees provides nursing care through physical and mental assessments, laboratory testing, plans of care and therapeutic treatments. Knowledgeable of a wide range of nursing leadership responsibilities and how to motivate and lead a team. Has knowledge of mental health disorders; cognitive, emotional, developmental, social and behavioral. Performs crisis intervention. Participates in the department's performance improvement and Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) activities. Functions as a leader in the hospital and is a key leader on the Executive Team and has responsibility for maintaining compliance and ensuring overall nursing functions are followed.Position Responsibilities:Clinical / Technical Skills (40% of performance review)Has key responsibility overseeing nursing PI activities and how those activities maintain patient safety and regulatory compliance.Supports the education and compliance of hospital policy and is actively involved in reviewing and providing feedback for changes as needed.Leads members of the nursing leadership team and nursing department through active positive communication, continual educational opportunities, and ensuring accountability of the departmental employees.Maintains strong collaborative relationships with all hospital departments, leaders, and Medical staff.Participates actively in the hospital governance process via committee membership and consistent attendance.Has accountability for departmental financial responsibility.Responsible for maintaining a therapeutic milieu that is safe and focused on delivering quality patient care. This includes leading the team that is on shift through appropriate assignments and thorough communication.Conducts admission and daily shift nursing assessments for all patients. Identifies and manages patient medical conditions and changes in patient condition. Assesses pain and utilizes appropriate pain management techniquesProvides education to patients and families.Conducts medication reconciliation as part of the medication management process. Administers medications utilizing safe medication practices and according to policy. Knowledgeable of medications, including psychotropic drugs, and their correct administration based on the age of the patient and their clinical condition.Follows Computerized Physician Order Entry (CPOE) protocols.Establishes and maintains individualized treatment plans depending on patient need.Works as an active member of the team and communicates with team members (physicians, therapists, administration, other departments etc.) regarding patient care issues.Coordinates and supervises patient care as necessary.Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors. Current unencumbered Registered Nurse license in the state of employment. CPR and hospital-selected de-escalation technique certification.Preferred: Masters Degree in Nursing or other Healthcare related field. Advanced degree or certification in nursing from an accredited nursing program or agencyMaintains education and development appropriate for position.ExperiencePreferred: A minimum of ten (10) year experience in a behavioral healthcare setting. A minimum of five (5) years of Healthcare leader experience.Regulatory and survey experience including The Joint Commission, CMS, and State level survey activity. #J-18808-Ljbffr
