Senior Systems Research Engineer - Embodied AI & Robotics
Intuitive Surgical
Senior Systems Research Engineer role focused on developing embodied AI and robotics applications. The position involves designing software architectures, building real-time data pipelines, and leading end-to-end projects that integrate AI/ML with robotic systems for medical applications.
Responsibilities
- Design and optimize software interfaces between edge AI, firmware, OS, hardware, and cloud services
- Architect robust data pipelines and real-time systems for sensor fusion and robotic control with optimized onboard inference
- Lead complex end-to-end embodied intelligence projects with critical architectural decisions and strategic roadmap definition
- Partner cross-functionally with motion controls, perception, and hardware teams to address clinical and safety requirements
- Apply rigorous software practices including maintainable code, modular architecture, and comprehensive testing
Requirements
- Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related field
- Minimum 6 years embedded systems software development experience in R&D environments
- Proficiency in C, C++, Python, Matlab and real-time multi-threaded application development
- Experience with embedded operating systems like QNX or Yocto, and CUDA programming
- Expertise in machine learning frameworks such as PyTorch or TensorFlow
- Robotics experience including motion control, perception, sensor fusion, and path planning
- Strong problem-solving and communication skills with adaptability to new technologies
