Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) Certified Nurse Practitioner (NP)

The Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) Certified Nurse Practitioner (NP) practices in Express Care to provide a full range of services emphasizing quality, timeliness, and the advancement of the Veterans Affairs (VA) mission. The NP provides advanced clinical practice, consultation, and management. Major duties include, but are not limited to:

• Independently provide direct patient care in an acute setting.
• Order and interprets labs, testing, diagnostic studies.
• Prescribes pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic interventions.
• Initiates referrals and specialty care consults as needed.
• Provides education and to their caregivers.
• Demonstrates leadership and works collaboratively within emergency medicine and with other interdisciplinary teams.
• Ability to complete minor procedures unsupervised, such as simple laceration suturing, applying splints, incision and drainage, aspiration and injection of joints.
