Job Summary The APRN Inpatient provides a wide range of primary, acute and specialty healthcare services, both autonomously and in partnership with other healthcare professionals, in accordance with State and Federal regulations. These services include managing patients’ overall care; prescribing medications and treatments; ordering, conducting and interpreting diagnostic tests such as X‑rays, ECGs and lab work; diagnosing and treating chronic and acute conditions, including injuries, infections, diabetes and high blood pressure; performing invasive procedures; counseling; and educating patients on positive health‑promoting lifestyle choices and disease, injury and illness prevention. The incumbent in this job classification may perform unit‑specific duties based on the specialty. Duties And Responsibilities Uses clinical judgments in conducting health assessments, making differential diagnoses, and prescribing pharmacological and non‑pharmacological treatments. Plans are implemented through independent action, health counseling, and collaboration with other members of the health team. The APRN is responsible for clinical oversight and health center consultation regarding the administration of healthcare policy and procedure of the delivery of on‑site health services. The NP promotes optimum health, prevents illness and injury, and manages acute and chronic health problems in the on‑site setting. Performs physical examinations and preventive health measures within prescribed guidelines and instructions of the Physician. Orders, interprets, and evaluates diagnostic tests to identify and assess patients’ clinical problems and health care needs. Records physical findings, and formulates a plan and prognosis based on the patient’s condition. Provides written home‑going instructions. Makes referrals for follow‑up to appropriate community resources. Collaborates with other specialties to ensure interdisciplinary management and continuity of care for both inpatients and outpatients. Collaborates with Physician and other health professionals to prepare a comprehensive patient care plan as necessary. Prescribes or recommends medications or other forms of treatment such as physical therapy, inhalation therapy, or related therapeutic procedures. Refers patients to Physician for consultation or to specialized health resources for treatment. Maintains detailed and accurate medical records. Educates and coaches nursing staff on best nursing practices. Initiates search of nursing literature and suggests changes/improvement in patient care standards. Integrates current knowledge of professional issues, trends in health care and technological advances into scope of practice. This job has no supervisory responsibilities. Follows and performs all related unit‑specific policies and procedures, as detailed on the unit specific competency checklist. Utilizes job and unit‑specific equipment as required. Employees assigned lead job duties may perform the following, but not limited to: approve time off requests for IR NPs. Coordinate tracking board and first cases. Address IR escalations, expediting and prioritizing escalations to help shorten LOS. Onboard fellows, orient residents, lead staff huddle. Main resource for the unit/hospital (touchpoint person for the unit). Review case delays. Involved in PI projects for the department. Psychiatric nurse practitioners can capacitate psychiatric patients in the hospital setting and provide one of the professional opinions on the Physician certification form (B‑32). Demonstrates behaviors of service excellence and CARE values (Compassion, Accountability, Respect and Expertise). Performs other related duties as assigned. Experience Generally requires 5 to 7 years of related experience. Units at BHH require 1 year of experience. Education Master’s degree in Nursing is required. License Certification Valid Florida Advanced Practice RN license required. Valid APRN Board certification in specialty area required. American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) and any additional applicable life support certification for Healthcare Providers is required upon hire with at least 6 months validity and maintenance at JHS for the duration of employment. Must meet and maintain valid and current all unit‑specific and organizational skills/competencies, certifications/licensures, as required by regulatory and/or nursing standard of practice for the specialty.
