PHYSICIAN SPECIALIST - OPT D

Union Position This is a union position; provisions of the relevant collective bargaining agreement apply to the filling of this position. Position Overview The Division of Behavioral Health and Recovery is hiring a Physician Specialist, Option D to serve as a staff psychiatrist at Madden Mental Health Center in Hines, Illinois. The physician directs a caseload on an assigned inpatient pavilion and shift, ensuring psychiatric treatment meets standards of care, evaluating cases at intake, providing clinical direction to staff, backing up other pavilions, serving on medical committees, signing certificates for involuntary admissions, and testifying in court. Essential Functions Serve as a staff psychiatrist serving patients on an assigned inpatient pavilion and shift. Provide treatment to a caseload of patients on the assigned pavilion and shift. Provide clinical direction to staff involved in direct care. Provide back‑up coverage of other pavilions. Serve as a member of the medical committees, pavilion and program meetings, case evaluation, audit, and utilization review committee to provide psychiatric expertise. Provide psychiatric services and consultation to other Division of Behavioral Health and Recovery hospitals via tele‑psychiatry and periodic on‑site review of cases. Sign certificates for involuntary patient admissions and testify in court. Attend and participate in all mandatory training. Perform other duties as assigned or required within the scope of duties enumerated above. Minimum Qualifications Valid State of Illinois Physician and Surgeon License. American Board Certification in the job‑related medical specialty of psychiatry. Preferred Qualifications One year of professional experience evaluating the quality of specialized medical care and treatment for patients with a mental illness. One year of professional experience coordinating medical services with other professional disciplines and supportive personnel. One year of professional experience conducting comprehensive psychiatric evaluations of patients. One year of professional experience identifying the most appropriate positive treatment option and carrying out that treatment in accordance with best practices. One year of professional experience communicating effectively both orally and in writing. One year of professional experience preparing comprehensive and specialized medical records and reports. Conditions of Employment Possession of a valid Illinois Controlled Substance License. Possession of a valid United States Drug Enforcement Administration Certificate of Registration. Ability to meet the requirements of and be appointed to the medical staff association of Madden Mental Health Center within 30 days of employment. Ability to travel in the performance of job duties. Ability to walk and stand for a significant period of time, including stooping, bending, lifting or exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally. Ability to participate in patient management interventions that may include restraint interventions. Ability to maintain current Basic Life Support Certification. Ability to testify in court. Ability to serve as Medical Officer of the Day after business hours, weekends and holidays in case of emergency. Ability to pass the IDHS background check. Ability to pass a drug screen for drugs prohibited from recreational use under Illinois Law. Work Hours 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m., Monday–Friday; 30‑minute unpaid lunch.
