Summer Camp Recreation Worker

Salary: $18.31 Hourly

Location: 175 Main Street, Prince Frederick, MD

Closing Date: Continuously open until filled

We require full availability for the entire summer camp schedule, including orientation week.

This is a summer position in the Recreation Division that provides recreational activities for children and youth with disabilities. The work involves working with staff to adapt and implement a variety of activities within a prescribed area of recreation. General supervision is provided by the Program Coordinator. Supervision of volunteer personnel is expected.

Essential Job Functions

• Demonstrates initiative and enthusiasm in providing recreational opportunities to participants.
• Interacts and communicates with staff in implementing and adapting activities that are age and ability appropriate.
• Leads and participates in scheduled activities, such as swimming, boating, field trips, physical activities, etc.
• Provides a safe environment for participants, staff, and volunteers.
• Communicates with coordinator and staff regarding activities, participants, and personnel issues.

Other Job Duties (Duties listed are not intended to be all inclusive nor limit reasonably assigned duties)

• Sets up and takes down equipment as needed.
• Feeds, clothes, and assists participants with toileting who are unable to do so independently.
• Maintains records of attendance, writes daily progress notes, and completes other paperwork required by the Therapeutic Recreation Services.
• Reports any issues, problems, or concerns when they occur to the Program Coordinator.
• Performs any assigned duties that relate to successful operation of a therapeutic recreation summer camp program.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities, (Pre-employment KSA applicable to essential job functions)

Knowledge of:

• Summer Camp programs.
• Implementing and adapting activities for maximum participation and independence.

Ability to:

• Lead, implement, and participate in a variety of creative and physical recreational activities on a daily basis.
• Interact with staff in a professional manner with integrity and good judgement.
• Maintain a positive working relationship with parents, community members, and staff.
• Deal effectively with the public.

Required Qualifications (Note: Any acceptable combination of education, training and relevant experience that provides the above knowledge, abilities and skills may be substituted on a full-time year for year basis.)

Training and/or Education

High School diploma or GED equivalent.

Experience

Three months experience working with children with disabilities.

Licenses or Certificates

None.

Special Requirements

Subject to background investigation.

Physical Demands

Medium to heavy physical effort required.
