Registered Nurse - Inpatient Staff Nurse

Summary: This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program, a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program approval – award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application. Former EDRP participants are ineligible to apply. Qualifications Basic English language proficiency – required for direct patient care positions. Graduate of an accredited school of professional nursing (ACEN or CCNE). Master’s level bridge program candidates may be appointed temporarily pending licensure. Foreign nursing graduates must hold a current, full, active, and unrestricted registration; equivalency validation may be required. Full, active registration as a registered professional nurse in a U.S. state, territory, Commonwealth, or D.C. is required. Graduate Nurse Technician (GNT) exception for candidates meeting education requirements but lacking licensure; temporary appointment up to two years. Grade determination follows scope and dimension criteria; detailed requirements are available at Preferred experience: inpatient nursing. Physical requirements are typical for the occupation and usually do not require pre-placement examination. Duties Responsible and accountable for all elements of the nursing process when providing and/or supervising direct patient care. Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate care based on age‑specific components. Coordinate care focused on patient education, self‑management, and customer satisfaction. Administer medications and procedures per established policies and guidelines. Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to influence care outcomes. Provide leadership, experience, and innovative approaches to managing complex client care. Collaborate in developing, implementing, evaluating, and revising policies, procedures, and guidelines. Demonstrate performance that improves care for a group of patients. Provide peers with constructive feedback and support knowledge sharing. Foster a safe and supportive environment for professional development. Evaluate evidence‑based outcomes and practice changes for individuals, groups, and populations. Document outcomes at program or service level; outcomes must be broad and complex. Benefits / Compensation Competitive salary with regular increases and potential performance awards.
