- Basic food preparation (chopping, slicing, measuring)
- Safe food handling and storage practices
- Ability to follow standardized recipes
- Portion control and plating
- Knowledge of modified diets (low sodium, diabetic, pureed, etc.)
- Understanding of food safety regulations (HACCP, local health codes)
- Proper handwashing and hygiene practices
- Preventing cross-contamination
- Cleaning and sanitizing kitchen equipment and surfaces
- Safe temperature control for hot/cold foods
- Basic understanding of nutrition and special diets
- Ability to follow diet orders accurately
- Awareness of food allergies and restrictions
- Familiarity with therapeutic diets in healthcare settings
- Basic cooking techniques (boiling, baking, steaming, grilling)
- Use of kitchen equipment (ovens, mixers, slicers)
- Time management during meal prep
- Ability to assist with meal production for large groups
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
- Strong multitasking skills
- Attention to detail in meal prep and tray assembly
- Inventory awareness and stocking supplies
- Ability to follow instructions from supervisors/cooks
- Good communication with kitchen and dietary staff
- Teamwork and collaboration
- Customer service skills when interacting with residents or patients
- Ability to stand for long periods
- Lifting and carrying food items or equipment
- Working in hot, fast-paced kitchen environments
- Flexibility with shifts, including weekends/holidays
- Reading menus and production sheets
- Recording temperatures and food logs
- Following schedules and meal service timelines

Education, Experience, and Licensure Requirements
- High school graduate or equivalent preferred
- Prior health-care experience preferred
- Prior food services experience preferred
- Implement and interpret the programs, goals, objectives, policies, and procedures of the department
- Maintains professional working relationships with all associates, vendors, etc
- Exhibit excellent customer service and a positive attitude towards patients
- Concentrate and use reasoning skills and good judgment
