Compliance and Governance Intern

Unit: Governance and Compliance Position: Governance and Compliance Intern Reports To: Assistant Commissioner This internship offers hands‑on experience in sports administration within a premier Division I collegiate athletic conference office. The role focuses on compliance, student-athlete involvement, and governance initiatives of the West Coast Conference. Principal Functions 65% Assistance with the Conference’s compliance services. NCAA and WCC compliance record management, education and interpretations. NCAA and WCC waiver administration. NCAA violation administration. NCAA legislative process and proposal tracking support. Participate in preparations for meetings and conference calls, as appropriate. NCAA committee tracking and reporting. 15% Assist with the Conference’s governance and student‑athlete services. Governance process and proposal administration support. WCC Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) support. Conference research related to governance recommendations and/or sport administration. Participate in preparations for meetings and conference calls with WCC Cabinets, Committees, and Head Coaches groups, as appropriate. Attend the Executive Council meetings in October and June. 10% Assist with the Conference’s championships and events. Specific duties as assigned at the 2027 WCC Men’s and Women’s Basketball Championship in Las Vegas. Other opportunities to work at WCC championships and events. 10% Other projects and responsibilities based on areas of interest and experience. The internship will run from August 3, 2026 to June 30, 2027. It is a 20‑hour‑a‑week position with a supervisor to arrange hours. The intern will be paid $18.00 per hour and will not receive benefits. The position is based at the WCC Office in San Bruno, CA, and requires occasional travel. Preferred Qualifications and Requirements Demonstrated experience with the WCC’s core values of integrity, servant leadership, inclusion, excellence, innovation, communication, and collaboration. Enrollment towards or completion of a Bachelor’s, Master’s or equivalent degree. Athletics administration and/or sports management experience or related volunteer experience preferred. High‑level proficiency in Microsoft programs (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint). Proficiency and experience with Apple computers and operating systems and Adobe Creative Suite preferred. Effective professional communication, both orally and in writing, with proficiency in drafting and editing written communications. Working knowledge of intercollegiate athletics, the West Coast Conference, and its institutions’ programs and/or higher education preferred.
