We offer you a career with a future and the chance to make a lasting difference in your community.As a key member of the Aquatics team, a Swim instructor teaches both youth and adults swimming techniques & pool safety, and is responsible for proactive communication and maintaining a safe pool atmosphere while preventing accidents. The main purpose of this position is to provide a positive role model for members and to create a character-developing atmosphere.ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:Uphold the mission of the YMCA, and demonstrate behaviors that reflect a determined, nurturing, genuine, hopeful, and welcoming nature.Must be able to remain alertAdequate ability to hear noises and distinguish distress signalsAbility to teach with patience and caring attitudeAbility to communicate verbally, including projecting voice across distance in normal and loud situationsMust be able to remain in water for long periods of timeResponsible for scheduled classes/shifts & for following appropriate substitutes proceduresArrive 15 minutes prior to class start time to set up and greet participantsClean up all equipment and pool deck after classes have endedAttend all staff meetings and trainings as required by the Aquatics’ DirectorPOSITION REQUIREMENTS:Minimum age of 15Team player with personal commitment to the YMCA Mission, Philosophy, & Character Development ValuesPeople centered, service orientedYMCA Youth Swim Lesson Instructor preferred, but we will trainExcellent oral and written communication skillsPrevious lifeguard experience preferred, but we will trainMust be able to swim and demonstrate strokesObtain CPR/AED and First Aid Certifications (within 90 days of employment)PHYSICAL DEMANDS:Must be able to remain alertWork in a wet/humid environment and come into contact with chlorineMust be able to remain in the pool for extended periods of timeAdequate ability to hear noises and distinguish distress signalsAbility to continuously scan all areas of the pool with clear visionAbility to perform strenuous physical tasks necessary for a water rescueAbility to communicate verbally, including projecting voice across distance in normal and loud situationsEnvironment may include indoor and/or outdoor pool conditionsAbility to lift 25 poundsNoise level-HighThe YMCA of Greater Louisville is an equal-opportunity employer committed to diversity and inclusion.
