NSC Staffing is seeking experienced Material Handler Operators to support cargo and bulk material handling operations in a busy marine terminal and waterfront environment. This position is responsible for safely loading, unloading, transporting, and staging bulk materials and cargo while maintaining productivity, equipment reliability, and safety standards.


The ideal candidate will have experience operating heavy material handling equipment and working in marine terminals, ports, shipyards, bulk cargo facilities, or industrial waterfront operations.

Position Overview


The Material Handler Operator is responsible for operating specialized material handling equipment to support bulk cargo and cargo transfer operations. This role performs loading, unloading, stockpiling, and movement of materials while maintaining compliance with terminal operating procedures and safety regulations.


Successful candidates will be safety-focused, mechanically inclined, and capable of working in a fast-paced industrial waterfront environment during day or night shifts.

Key Responsibilities

Material Handling Operations

• Load, unload, transfer, and move bulk materials and cargo safely and efficiently.
• Support vessel, dockside, barge, rail, and terminal operations.
• Maintain material flow to support production and shipping schedules.
• Monitor cargo handling activities to ensure operational efficiency.

Equipment Operation

• Operate material handling equipment including:
  • Material Handlers
  • Bulk Material Transfer Equipment
  • Mobile Cargo Handling Equipment
• Safely maneuver equipment in terminal, dockside, and barge environments.
• Conduct pre-operational inspections and ensure equipment is operating properly.
• Report equipment deficiencies, maintenance concerns, or safety issues.

Cargo & Bulk Material Management

• Handle a variety of bulk commodities and cargo materials.
• Support loading and unloading operations from barges, vessels, trucks, and storage areas.
• Assist with stockpile management and cargo staging activities.
• Maintain awareness of cargo movements and worksite hazards.

Safety & Compliance

• Follow all terminal, port, and company safety procedures.
• Conduct daily equipment inspections and complete required documentation.
• Maintain awareness of surrounding personnel, equipment, and operations.
• Utilize required PPE and support a safety-first work environment.
• Participate in safety meetings and training programs.

Team Support

• Work closely with terminal personnel, supervisors, and operations teams.
• Support day and night shift operations as assigned.
• Assist with additional terminal activities as needed to meet operational requirements.

Qualifications & Experience

Required Qualifications

• Minimum 1-3 years of material handling equipment operating experience preferred .
• Experience working in:
  • Marine terminals
  • Ports
  • Shipyards
  • Bulk cargo facilities
  • Industrial material handling operations
• Experience loading, unloading, and moving cargo materials.
• Strong commitment to workplace safety.
• Ability to work in outdoor industrial environments.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience operating:
  • Liebherr Material Handlers
  • SENNEBOGEN Material Handlers
  • Truck-Ho Equipment
• Experience with marine cargo operations.
• Familiarity with bulk material transfer and cargo handling procedures.

Requirements

• Valid TWIC Card (Transportation Worker Identification Credential) required.
• Must be able to obtain required terminal access credentials and badges.
• Must be a local candidate; no per diem or travel assistance available.
• Ability to work day or night shifts as assigned.
• Ability to pass any required background screening and drug testing requirements.

Work Environment

• Active waterfront, terminal, dockside, and industrial environments.
• Work may be performed:
  • On docks
  • At bulk cargo terminals
  • On barges
  • Around heavy equipment
  • In various weather conditions
• Exposure to:
  • Industrial noise
  • Heavy equipment traffic
  • Dust and bulk materials
  • Outdoor environmental conditions

Physical Requirements

• Ability to climb in and out of heavy equipment safely.
• Ability to stand, walk, bend, climb, and work for extended periods.
• Ability to work around heavy machinery and moving equipment.
• Ability to perform equipment inspections and routine operator maintenance checks.
• Ability to safely work in industrial waterfront environments while wearing required PPE.

The anticipated salary range represents the estimated base pay for this role. Final compensation will be determined based on experience, qualifications, and other job-related factors and may vary from the posted range.
