Computer Technician II
To maintain and repair district and school building computers and support hardware.
An employee in this field supports and maintains administrative and instructional computers, software and networks. This includes repair of all technology-related equipment. Employee provides on-site assistance in classrooms, media centers, computer labs and administrative offices. Employee identifies problems and takes appropriate corrective action. Employee installs and upgrades all technology-related equipment in network and stand-alone environments. Typically, this employee will provide first response support from the system level for the maintenance and operation of computers, software and networks at the building level. Employee may have multiple sites to maintain. Complex problems may be referred to Network Administrators positions. This position is distinguished from Technician I by its emphasis on building-level support and more specialized knowledge of computer hardware, software and computer networks.
High School diploma or equivalent is required as well as Graduation from a two-year technical college or technical school with a degree in computer science, information technology or related area and two years relevant experience in the information technology field or graduation from a four-year college or university and eighteen months relevant experience in the information technology field or graduation from a four-year college or university with a major in computer science or information technology or related degree. Preference will be provided to applicants with certifications such as A+, N+, S+, RHCE, MCSE, ACDT, ACPT and ACHDS. If hired one of the previous certifications will be required to maintain the position after 12 months of employment.
Assists with the installation of hardware, software and related peripherals.
Ensures the maintenance of all computers, software, and local area networks by monitoring performance and responding to reports of trouble.
Installs upgrades to hardware and software.
Makes recommendations to building-level staff regarding upgrades and replacement of technology-related equipment.
Reads and interprets schematics, wiring diagrams and manuals.
Operates standard and specialized electronic devices in testing and troubleshooting computers, networks and other technology-related equipment.
Attends classes and seminars to enhance knowledge of equipment and operating systems.
Provides desk-side assistance to users as required.
Performs other work related tasks as required.
Physical Requirements: Must be physically able to operate a variety of equipment and tools including computer software, computer hardware, cables, etc. Must be able to exert up to 30 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 5 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. Physical demand requirements are in excess of those for Medium Work.
Data Conception: Requires the ability to compare and/or judge the readily observable, functional, structural or composite characteristics (whether similar or divergent from obvious standards) of data, people or things.
Interpersonal Communication: Requires the ability to speak and/or signal people to convey or exchange information. Includes receiving instructions, assignments or directions from superiors.
Language Ability: Requires the ability to read a variety of correspondence, technical manuals, newsletters, trade journals, etc. Requires the ability to prepare reports, forms, training materials, documentation, etc. using prescribed formats and conforming to all rules of punctuation, grammar, diction, and style. Requires the ability to speak to people with poise, voice control and confidence.
Intelligence: Requires the ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions; to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagrammatic form; and to deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
Verbal Aptitude: Requires the ability to record and deliver information, to explain procedures, to give oral and written instructions. Must be able to communicate effectively and efficiently in a variety of technical or professional languages including computer terminology.
Numerical Aptitude: Requires the ability to utilize mathematical formulas; to add and subtract; multiply and divide; utilize decimals and percentages; understand and apply the theories of algebra and geometry.
Form/Spatial Aptitude: Requires the ability to inspect items for proper length, width and shape.
Motor Coordination: Requires the ability to coordinate hands and eyes rapidly and accurately in using computer equipment.
Manual Dexterity: Requires the ability to handle a variety of items such as computer equipment. Must have minimal levels of eye/hand/foot coordination.
Color Discrimination: Requires the ability to differentiate between colors and shades of color.
Interpersonal Temperament: Requires the ability to deal with people beyond giving and receiving instructions. Must be adaptable to performing under stress and when confronted with persons acting under stress.
Physical Communication: Requires the ability to talk and hear: (Talking: expressing or exchanging ideas by means of spoken words. Hearing: perceiving nature of sounds by ear.) Must be able to communicate via telephone.

Understanding of mechanical, electronic, and computer principles as applied to the repair and maintenance of computers, networks and peripherals
General knowledge of Linux and Apple architecture within an enterprise network
General knowledge in server setup, installation, maintenance, backup/restore, performance monitoring and problem resolution in an enterprise environment
Manages tasks independently
Ability to develop own work schedule and monitor progress against defined parameters with minimal supervision
Effectively contributes to plan solutions non-routine problems
Performs diagnostics on a variety of software and hardware
Acts as a technical resource for others
Must be extremely reliable, of high integrity and be willing to accept change

Must be able to communicate effectively, coordinate multiple tasks simultaneously and address difficult situations accurately
Must be able to work without close supervision and be self motivating
