Children and Family Director

About First Baptist Church – 

First Baptist Church of Carmi, Illinois, located in beautiful Southern Illinois, is searching for a Children and Family Director to lead a growing family ministry. We currently average 30-40 children in our midweek program. Our church has a rich history of ministry toward youth and children, and we’re following God’s leadership to call a Children and Family Director. 

Responsibilities and Duties:

— Innovate, plan, and carry out events and programs with the intent of reaching children and their families with the Gospel of Jesus. 
–Provide a teaching and learning process of discipleship for children who have made or desire to make a profession of faith. 
–Create a means to assimilate children into Sunday School and equip children’s leaders in teaching and evangelism. 
–Schedule and deliver team orientation and ongoing training for volunteers involved in the children’s ministry regularly. 
–Develop and lead a team to implement and carry out the Children’s ministry during Sunday morning worship, which includes Children’s Church and resources to equip parents/older children who remain during worship. 
–Develop and maintain a Children’s Ministry Welcome Team to greet members and guests as they arrive and depart from the Children’s Ministry area on Sunday mornings. 
–Developing and leading the preteens and their families, enabling them to transition well to the Youth Ministry. 
–Develop and lead the nursery ministry (infants and toddlers) and equip the volunteers who serve in this ministry. 
–Schedule and conduct parenting and family enrichment activities and programs to disciple parents, enabling them to provide Godly leadership in their homes. 
–Continually evaluate the Children and Family Ministry at First Baptist Church of Carmi to judge and improve effectiveness in reaching, teaching, and ministering to children and their families. 
–Responsible for selecting and/or approving Bible-based and age-appropriate curriculum for each age level in the Children’s Ministry. 
–Explain and educate children about the Church’s role in local, national, and global missions. 
–Develop, oversee, and maintain an annual budget for the Children’s Ministry. 
–Refine and implement check-in procedures for children for services and special events to maintain a safe and secure environment for children and their families. 
–Maintain and improve volunteer screening processes for all child workers to ensure the safety of all children in the Church’s Ministry Program. 
–Lead and equip a Children’s Ministry Committee to help evaluate the ministry, plan and implement events, minister to families, and pray for the ministry to children and families. 

General Responsibilities

–Demonstrate a Christ-like attitude in performing all work to honor the Lord Jesus Christ. 
–Faithfully maintain discretion and effectively deal with sensitive and/or confidential information of a written and spoken nature. 
–Use independent judgment to determine work priorities. 
–Perform other related duties as assigned by the Senior Pastor. 
–Remain a loyal staff member who cooperates with and follows the leadership of the church. 
–Follow First Baptist Church of Carmi’s policy handbook. 
–Work in coordination with the overall mission, goals, and objectives of the church. 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

–Ability to relate to children and parents personally. 
–Ability to recruit and train volunteers to be part of a ministry team. 
–Ability to learn and abide by Church policies and procedures. 
–Ability to communicate concisely and effectively, and use tact and discretion. 
–Hold a minimum of an Associate’s Degree. 
–At least three years of experience in leading a children’s ministry. 
–Be a self-starter with drive, passion, and initiative. 

Conditions and Physical Requirements

–The ministry position will primarily be carried out in an office setting and will require sitting, standing, bending, and carrying some moderately heavy objects.
