Distribution Project Manager (Utility T&D/Substation)Location: Morristown, NJ or Reading, PAA growing utility-focused infrastructure consulting firm is seeking an experienced Distribution Project Manager to support a long-term capital improvement program for a major electric utility. This role will focus on managing electrical distribution construction projects across New Jersey and Eastern Pennsylvania.This organization partners with major utilities to help plan and deliver critical infrastructure upgrades that keep the electrical grid reliable and modern. The firm specializes in project and program management services, supporting projects from planning and engineering coordination through construction and project closeout.This is a long-term program that has already been active for several years and is expected to continue for 5–10 more years, providing stability and growth opportunities for project management professionals.All Applicants MUST HAVE - Utility electric transmission/distribution and substation experience 34.5 kv to 500 kv experienceCompensation: $110,000 – $160,000 annually (depending on experience)Benefits:Medical, Dental, and Vision Insurance401(k) retirement planPaid Time Off and holidaysLong-term project stability supporting major utility programsOpportunity to work on critical energy infrastructure projectsWhat You'll Do:Manage 10–20 electrical distribution projects simultaneously from initiation through completionReview project scope and develop project execution plans with engineering and client stakeholdersCoordinate engineering design, procurement, and construction activitiesManage contractor bid processes and develop RFP packagesLead pre-construction meetings and ongoing project progress meetingsMonitor project schedules and coordinate work sequencing with engineering and field teamsTrack project budgets, financial forecasts, and accrualsCoordinate permitting approvals and regulatory documentationMaintain strong communication with engineering teams, contractors, and utility stakeholdersSupport project closeout and system energization activitiesProjects may include:Distribution line upgrades and circuit rebuildsPole replacements and equipment upgradesSubstation equipment modernizationTelecommunications equipment upgradesNew customer and generator interconnectionsTypical project budgets range from $50,000 to $5 million, with project managers responsible for portfolios averaging $10 million annually.What You Bring:Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field5+ years of project management experience supporting electrical distribution or substation projectsExperience managing project budgets and schedulesExperience coordinating engineering teams, contractors, and utility stakeholdersStrong written and verbal communication skillsAbility to manage multiple projects simultaneouslyValid driver's license and ability to travel to project sites within a regional service areaPreferred Experience:Utility client experiencePrimavera P6 or similar project scheduling softwareExperience managing contractor bid processes and construction contractsPMP certificationWork Environment:This role operates in a hybrid field/office environment, with approximately:80% office/project coordination20% field presence supporting construction activitiesProject sites are typically within a 1–3 hour radius of the office location.Why This Opportunity:This role offers the opportunity to work on major utility infrastructure programs that improve grid reliability and support the transition to modern energy systems.
