POSITION TITLE: Senior Staff Accountant FLSA: Exempt SALARY: $62,332.80 yearly WORK DAYS: 240 LOCATION: Finance Division/MCPEC REPORTS TO: Director of Accounting Primary Function: The job of Senior Staff Accountant is done for the purpose/s of providing oversight of staff accountants; performing various account reconciliations, grant management, and collection and consolidation of financial information in order to facilitate sound business decisions. REQUIREMENTS 1. Educational Level: Bachelor degree with Major in Accounting or Finance. 2. Experience: Five or more years of accounting experience. 3. Physical Activities: Routine physical activities that are required to fulfill job responsibilities 4. Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities: KNOWLEDGE is required to perform advanced math; read a variety of manuals, write documents following prescribed formats, and/or present information to others; and analyze situations to define issues and draw conclusions. Specific knowledge-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: pertinent laws, codes, policies, and/or regulations; personnel processes; program planning and development; school budgeting, policies and audit procedures; concepts of grammar and punctuation; principles of public and fund accounting and budgeting, knowledge of OMB Uniform Grant Guidance, knowledge of multi-fund governmental accounting, internal control policies and audit activities. SKILLS are required to perform multiple, technical tasks using existing skills. Specific skill-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: operating standard office equipment including using a variety of software applications including Excel, Word, Power Point and Access; planning and managing projects; and preparing and maintaining accurate records. ABILITY is required to schedule activities and/or meetings; gather, collate, and/or classify data; and use basic, job-related equipment. Flexibility is required to work with others; analyze data utilizing defined but different processes; and operate equipment using standardized methods. Ability is also required to work with a diversity of individuals; work with data of varied types and/or purposes; and utilize job-related equipment. Some problem solving may be required to identify issues and select action plans. Problem solving with data frequently requires independent interpretation of guidelines; and problem solving with equipment is limited to moderate. ESSENTIAL DUTIES 1. Attends a variety of meetings (e.g., meetings, workshops, seminars, etc.) for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform functions. 2. Collects and maintains supporting documentation (e.g., allowable costs, processes for the selection of vendors and contractors, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring compliance with OMB Uniform Grant Guidance 3. Compiles financial and statistical data for a variety of financial reports (e.g., Comprehensive Annual Financial Report, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring the district meets all state, federal, and local financial reporting requirements 4. Examines a variety of supporting documentation (e.g., receipts, invoices, bank statements, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring proper reconciliation of various account balances. 5. Oversees a variety of financial procedures (e.g., compliance provisions for grants, etc.) for the purpose of meeting the requirements of state, federal, and local funding institutions. 6. Oversees and inputs journal entries for the purpose of ensuring all transactions are accurately recorded. 7. Reconciles fiscal information and account balances (e.g., bank accounts, etc.) for the purpose of verifying accuracy of information, maintaining accurate balances and complying with generally accepted accounting practices and procedures. 8. Researches a variety of information and work-related topics (e.g., data for inclusion in financial reports, new requirements in school accounting procedures, federal, state and/or local funding changes, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring accurate financial analyses and reports for the district 9. Resolves misallocations of expenditures (e.g., overpayments, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring the relevance, reliability and accuracy of financial information. 10. Reviews financial data (e.g., audit reports, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring accurate and complete financial reporting 11. Serves as a source of information for a variety of internal and/or external stakeholders for the purpose of disseminating information and ensuring compliance with internal controls. 12. Supervises activities of the staff accountants (e.g., journal entry input, documentation of allowable expenditures under OMB Uniform Grant Guidance, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring district accounting practices, processes, and procedures are followed and meet state, federal, and local requirements. 13. Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.
