Counselor, Specializing in Working with the African Diaspora (CNSLNG PSYCHOLOGIST 3 HX)

Overview Under the direction of the Counseling Services (CS) Associate Director/Clinical Director at Student Health & Counseling Services (SHCS), this position serves as a technical leader with a high degree of knowledge in the field and recognized expertise in specific areas. Responsibilities include professional behavioral counseling with patients/clients (individual, group, crisis intervention, and case management) assigned by quarterly clinic schedule. The role requires analysis of unique and complex issues. The position supports all UC Davis students with a focus on coordinating and providing services to students from the African diaspora. The role contributes expertise to campus-wide programs on education, multicultural concerns, and prevention, formulating strategies and administering policies, processes, and resources. It operates with a high degree of autonomy and provides trainings to Counseling Services trainees in an APA-accredited internship and APPIC-member postdoctoral program. The work is performed as part of a multidisciplinary team and complies with SHCS and UC Davis policies, as well as applicable State and Federal professional requirements. The job site may be located in one of several Medical Clinics, Academic Satellites, and/or Mental Health Clinic. Qualifications California Licensed Psychologist (PSYCH). Psychologists (e.g., Psy.D., Ph.D.) governed by the California Board of Psychology must possess a valid license. Applicants licensed in another state must obtain California licensure within 180 days after submitting an application or from the date of residency in California, whichever comes first. Applicants not licensed but license-eligible in California must have passed the EPPP by time of application. Must possess California Board of Psychology valid license within 30 days of job offer. Current CPR certification. Experience providing culturally relevant services to students from the African diaspora as well as individuals from diverse socio-cultural backgrounds. Experience providing counseling, clinical consultation, and/or psychotherapy to clients, including determining therapeutic approaches and referring out for specialty or higher levels of care as needed, using short-term models of individual and group psychotherapy/counseling. Experience assessing and intervening in crisis situations. Ability to establish professional work relationships and provide supervision to predoctoral and postdoctoral trainees. Ability to develop and document treatment plans and interventions clearly and timely within an electronic health record. Ability to develop and lead educational workshops, support groups, and therapy groups for the center. Preferred Qualifications Experience working in a university counseling service with strong student-service orientation. Knowledge of ethical, legal and university standards and regulations. SHCS serves approximately 300 patients per day during the school year. The mission is to provide campus health and wellness resources that enable students to succeed academically and maintain lifelong wellness. SHCS has approximately 200 staff including managers, senior professionals, professional and support staff, student employees, interns and postdoctoral residents. SHCS is accredited by AAAHC, IACS, and APA. Counseling services are offered at no cost to registered students.
