Senior Accountant

Kforce has a client that is seeking a Senior Accountant in Columbia, MD. Summary: We are seeking an experienced Senior Accountant to support general ledger accounting, financial reporting, reconciliations, and month-end close activities. This role is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, preparing financial statements, analyzing results, and strengthening accounting processes and internal controls. Key Responsibilities:

• Maintain accurate financial records and ensure financial transactions are properly recorded
• Prepare and post journal entries and general ledger adjustments
• Maintain general ledger accounts and reconcile subsidiary ledgers to the general ledger
• Prepare complex balance sheets, income statements, and other financial reports
• Complete monthly balance sheet reconciliations for asset and liability accounts
• Research and resolve account discrepancies in a timely manner
• Support monthly, quarterly, and annual close activities
• Prepare and analyze financial statements and supporting schedules
• Analyze operating expenses and explain significant variances against budget
• Analyze costs, revenues, financial commitments, and obligations to support financial planning and decision-making
• Develop and document accounting policies, procedures, and business processes
• Support and strengthen internal controls and financial reporting processes
• Assist with audit requests and prepare supporting documentation
• Provide guidance and support to junior accounting team members as needed
• Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, reporting, and operational efficiency
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
• Previous general ledger and financial reporting experience
• Strong understanding of GAAP and accounting principles
• Experience preparing financial statements and journal entries
• Strong balance sheet and account reconciliation experience
• Experience with month-end and year-end close processes
• Experience analyzing budget-to-actual variances
• Strong Microsoft Excel skills
• The ideal candidate has strong accounting fundamentals, excellent analytical skills, and the ability to independently research and resolve financial discrepancies
• Problem-solving abilities
• Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines

• CPA or progress toward CPA certification
• Experience supporting internal or external audits
• Experience with ERP or financial accounting systems
• Experience developing or improving internal controls and accounting procedures
• Previous experience mentoring or guiding junior accountants
