Registered Nurse - Mother/Baby

POSITION SUMMARY:

Accountable for the observation, assessment, intervention, evaluation, rehabilitation, or health teachings of a person who is ill, injured, infirm, or experiencing a change in normal health processes; the maintenance of health or prevention of illness; the administration of a medication or treatment as ordered by a physician, the supervision or teaching of nursing; the administration, supervision, and evaluation of nursing practices, policies, and procedures; the performance of an act delegated by a physician and the development of the nursing care plan.

Job Details:

• Full-time day shift,6:30a-7p May rotate weekends

Duties and Responsibilties:

1.Assesses postpartum patients' physical condition and monitors parameters for both vaginal and cesarean section deliveries through discharge from the hospital.

2. Assesses neonates' physical condition and monitors parameters through discharge from the hospital.

3. Manages pain control needs for postpartum patients and newborns.

4. Develop, implement and evaluate an individualized and specific discharge plan of care based on an assessment of the patient and family/significant other's needs.

5. Promotes a philosophy of maternal/infant care that advocates breastfeeding and supports the normal physiological functions involved in the establishment of this maternal/infant process.

6. Assesses for and in collaboration with the medical staff, stabilizes and evaluates effectiveness of interventions for obstetrical/medical complications such as:
• Postpartum Hemorrhage
• Pregnancy Induced Hypertension (PIH)
• Diabetes
• Thermoregulation of the Newborn
• Hypoglycemia of the Newborn
• Hyperbilirubinemia

7. Engages in the development of a caring milieu for grieving families.

• Licensed as a Registered Nurse accepted by the Texas State Board of Nursing to engage in professional nursing
• Technical, clerical, critical thinking and interpersonal skills relevant to patient care/area
• Certification requirements as defined by the certification policy
• Able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing
• AHA BLS, NRP

PREFERRED:

• Labor and Delivery, Antepartum and Post Partum experience
• Bachelors of Nursing degree or progression to this degree
• National Certification as recognized by the American Nurses Credentialing Center
• Bilingual or Multilingual
