Summary / Scope The Lab Coordinator will maintain maintenance and warranty records for lab equipment, oversee the ordering of supplies for laboratory courses, provide functional support to faculty in lab setup and breakdown, work closely with faculty and department chairs of biology, chemistry, and physical sciences, and assist in overseeing student workers assigned to the lab(s) and departments. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Assist in maintaining budgets, posting expenses, reconciling monthly budget reports, and tracking departmental spending. Supervise lab assistants: hire and train all student workers (average 12‑19 per semester), fill all open TA positions, monitor and verify student timecards, assign duties, and provide assistance as needed. Requisitions, purchase, track, and inventory all lab supplies. Maintain purchasing records. Coordinate study labs. Maintain equipment and coordinate maintenance and repair schedules. Maintain biology stockroom, including chemical inventories, slide inventories, specimen inventories, etc. Coordinate students to worktables for Fall and Winter Preview in Biology. Assist faculty with lectures and labs as needed (cover classes for various professors). Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals; write routine reports; speak effectively before groups; work with mathematical concepts; solve practical problems; interpret instructions; use Word Processing, Spreadsheet, and Internet software. Education/Experience: Bachelor’s degree from a four‑year college or university required. A degree in chemistry, biology, biomedical science, or a related field is preferred. Additional Requirements: Self‑motivated and able to work with minimal supervision. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Organized, able to handle several projects simultaneously, and flexible regarding tasks. Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: None required. Physical Requirements Frequently required to stand, walk, sit, taste, or smell. Occasionally required to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Regularly lift and move up to 10 lbs, frequently up to 25 lbs, occasionally up to 50 lbs. Requires close, distance, peripheral vision, and ability to adjust focus.
