Job Duties Interacts with co‑workers, visitors, and other staff consistent with the values of Jefferson. Communicates with and supports the interprofessional team, patient, family and designated care partners. Maintains regular communication with the Charge Nurse to meet the needs of the unit. Monitors the electronic patient bed system for admission/discharge bed‑flow, assigns admissions, completes staffing assignment if needed, and requests patient transport as needed. Collaborates with the Charge Nurse to ensure patient appropriateness for the unit. Coordinates patient appointments/testing within the acute care setting including coordination of transport. May coordinate patient discharge appointments. Performs clerical functions to support the department, including maintaining medical records to ensure complete and organized patient information. Organizes the work environment for effective and efficient department operations. Processes medical orders to facilitate implementation of the medical regimen for patient care. Performs other related duties and complies with hospital policies and procedures. Uses information technology to communicate, manage knowledge, mitigate error, and support ethical decision‑making. Acts as the active responder during unit emergency codes – immediately calls code to the emergency response dispatcher, assists the team in quickly gathering equipment (e.g., EKG, glucometer, crash cart, suction, etc.) and flushes as needed. Troubleshoots equipment failures to attempt to reset before handing off to the appropriate on‑call repair team (Patient TV, call bell wall unit, computers, printers, etc.). Participates in Unit Committee meetings – in addition to staff meetings. Monitors the tube station for incoming and outgoing items (medications, cardiac monitor strips, etc.) and dispenses accordingly. Minimum Qualifications Related secretarial and computer experience; knowledge of medical terminology. Cultural awareness – knowledge of people with diverse backgrounds and ability to convey respect and connect effectively. Effective communication – understanding of effective communication concepts, tools, and techniques, and the ability to transmit, receive, and accurately interpret ideas, information, and needs through appropriate communication behaviors. Uses the language of partnership with patients and families, engaging them in their health care, and respectfully delegates to other team members. Patient‑ and family‑centered practice – knowledge of how to convey respect and collaborate with each patient, family, and/or designated care partner in the care setting. Knowledge of medical terminology is highly recommended. Preferred Qualifications Diploma or equivalent. Data entry experience preferred. Physical Demands Lift and carry 40–50 lbs. Examples: push/pull patients on bed, stretcher (requires 29 lbs. push force), lateral transfers up to 50 lbs. of the patient's weight. Frequent to continuous standing/walking. Patient transporters can walk 8–10 miles per shift. Patient care providers may be required to perform activities specific to their role including kneeling, bending, squatting and performing CPR.
