General Counselor, Prep Cook (Vashon)

Prep Cook

• Assists in food preparation of main and side dishes during shift as assigned
• Undertake basic cooking duties, such as preparing ingredients and simple dishes
• Assists with food storage, food holding, and wrapping as needed
• Helps put away food orders as requested
• Sees that kitchen and food storage areas are clean and neat
• Helps our Camp Packout staff (Grubstake) in preparing food orders as assigned
• Ensures that all applicable laws and standards are observed
• Guides occasional teen leaders/volunteers in a learning experience related to kitchen operations
• As requested, helps maintain inventories of food on hand or in storage
• Perform other duties as assigned

General Counselor

• Supervises a group of campers during their stay at camp, living in the cabin with campers and guiding them through all aspects of their day, including: assisting campers in getting ready for wake-up and bedtime, sitting with campers at meals, completing camp chores alongside campers, participating with and supporting campers in their camp activities
• Builds strong relationships with campers
• Acts as a leader and positive role model to campers
• Supports campers with their social-emotional needs, such as supporting homesick campers
• Attends to campers health care needs by monitoring hydration and eating habits, encouraging hygiene, and taking campers to healthcare staff if necessary
• Keeps campers physically safe by enforcing all camp rules
• Collaborates with other counselors and Unit Leader (counselor’s supervisor) in creating and leading unit activities
• Participates in unit meetings and camp staff meetings
• Responsible for keeping their cabin clean, and assists in keeping other camp facilities clean
