THE POSITION

DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This role focuses on supporting the daily care needs of inmates at the State Correctional Institution (SCI) at Laurel Highlands while working under the guidance of licensed professional staff. As a Nurse Aide, you will perform the following duties:

• Vital Monitoring: Complete basic nursing procedures such as collecting required specimens, as well as checking and recording vital signs, height, and weight
• Personal Care Support: Assist inmates with hygiene needs, feeding, mobility, and comfort measures
• Safety Assistance: Escort wheelchair inmates, help with transfers, and observe and report safety concerns
• Record Keeping: Document care activities, retrieve and file records, and support information flow to staff
• Environment Maintenance: Maintain clean work areas, follow procedures, and report hazards
• Emergency Response: Participate in emergency situations by performing emergency procedures as indicated and participating in emergency response drills

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

• Full-time employment
• The Department of Corrections is staffed by three (3) work shifts that cover the facility 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. Work hours will be determined from the following shifts:
  • 1st shift: 6:00 AM to 2:30 PM
  • 2nd shift: 2:00 PM to 10:30 PM
  • 3rd shift: 10:00 PM to 6:30 AM
• Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
• Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

• Active registration as a Nurse Aide in the Pennsylvania Nurse Aide Registry; or
• Six months of paid experience in the care and treatment of geriatric or physically ill patients or residents.

Special Requirements:

• This position is assigned to a long-term or specialized care facility and requires active registration as a Nurse Aide in the Pennsylvania Nurse Aide Registry.

Additional Requirements:

• Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.
• You must be able to perform essential job functions.
