Overview Plumber role at Inside Higher Ed Open Date: 08/04/2025 Open Until Filled: Yes Position Details Requisition 202500240S Title Plumber FLSA Status Non-Exempt Occupational Category Skilled Craft Department Facilities Management - Facilities Services Division Division of Finance and Operations Educational And Experience Requirement High school graduate or G.E.D. equivalent. Four years of experience at a maintenance plumbing level or experience in a related field. Must be licensed as a Journey level plumber by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation or must meet the requirements to obtain a license immediately upon hiring. Technical/vocational training related to job duties would be helpful. Additional education may be considered in lieu of experience. Primary Responsibilities Responsible for complex tasks in existing and new construction of various plumbing systems, such as water, sewage, drainage, air, gas and sewer lines, and related systems. Install plumbing, traps wash bowls, fittings, drains, special laboratory sinks, drain tables, and experimental tables. Repair, replace, and maintain valves, faucets, traps, sinks, wash bowls, sewers, and lead joints. Connect and maintain hot water units, gas heaters, and furnaces. Check for safety and unstopp unclogged lines. May assist with estimates of time and materials required for a job. Perform other related duties as assigned. Other Specifications Ability to use the tools, equipment, and machines of the plumbing trade. Requires accuracy in all phases of work performed. Exposure to dampness, dust, dirt, and grime; work in narrow quarters, trenches, under buildings; exposure to weather. Thorough knowledge of applicable laws, ordinances, and regulations governing the plumbing trade. Skills to operate backhoe for repairing, replacing, or installing underground sewer/water lines would be helpful. Uniforms and identification badges provided; must wear uniforms and display badge. May work hours other than 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, or when called out by emergency. Position requires driving and operating a university vehicle; a valid Texas driver license and acceptable driving record are required.
