AI Engineer / Agentic Developer

Role Description

We're seeking experienced Backend or Fullstack Developers with a strong systems-design mindset to join our fully remote team. If you like complexity, enjoy thinking hard about data, scale and reliability, want to implement AI-solutions and enjoy working with Claude/Cursor/Codex, this could be the right role for you.

You'll be working on hausverwalter.ai – our AI-first, all-in-one platform for German property management companies, which enables customers to set up, train and measure AI agents to automate any task they want. It is an ambitious project consisting of modules for:

• Ticketing
• Project-management
• Documents
• Knowledgebase
• Team-communication

Currently, property managers use on average 5-10 software tools daily. We are building a single software to replace (and automate) them all.

What you'll do:

• Develop and maintain our web application
• Design and own our data layer – schema and table design, relationships and indexing, and query/load optimization that holds up as the system grows
• Design queues, background jobs and long-running workflows that stay correct and reliable under heavy load
• Contribute to architecture decisions, the direction of our stack, and the overall product vision
• Build robust pipelines for document- & email processing and 3rd-party-integrations that handle volume spikes gracefully
• Build and optimize agents for our growing template-library
• Extend our RAG / knowledge base system (embeddings, semantic search, reranking)
• Operate in an AI-first development setup powered by Claude/Cursor
• Manage version control and team collaboration via GitHub

Qualifications

• 3+ years building production web backends or full-stack apps — you’ve owned schema design, indexing, and query performance, not only CRUD on existing models
• Strong systems-design mindset: queues, background jobs, long-running workflows; you reason about correctness, scale, and failure modes
• Comfortable shipping AI-powered features (agents, RAG, document/email pipelines) and working AI-first with Claude, Cursor, or similar tools
• Solid English for async remote collaboration; German not required
• Technical understanding and strong problem-solving skills
• Comfortable working under performance pressure
• Quick on the uptake and a disciplined approach to your work

Requirements

• Solid backend and systems-design experience – you can design a database from the ground up (tables, relationships, indexes) and reason about database load, query performance and data growth, not just write CRUD against an existing schema
• Comfort with queues, background jobs and long-running workflows, and the judgment to make the hard design trade-offs they involve
• You treat reliability, scalability and maintainability as default concerns. If you've read "Designing Data-Intensive Applications" (Kleppmann) – or simply think that way – you'll feel right at home here
