Physician - OB/GYN Santa Cruz

Summary: Locum coverage needed for OB/GYN Department in Santa Cruz, CA. The role includes a mix of clinic and hospital call responsibilities, laborist role. Primarily low-risk patients, but with access to strong specialist support and a Level III NICU. Bilingual providers strongly preferred.


Rate Caps for Submission:
Malpractice - Must be included in rates.
Orientation - half the hourly/callback rate*** kicks in after 8 hours. "Per hour of orientation or training beyond 8 hours"
Holiday - Must be 1.5x the regular rate*** "Per holiday hour, no OT"
Hourly - *** and below - "Per hour, not OT"


Schedule/Availability Requirements:
1-2 clinic days/week
24-hour in-house hospital call (6 calls per month, 1:6 schedule) - 8a-8a
anticipating needing locums coverage for 6 months

Setting: Mix of outpatient clinic and inpatient hospital call.
Duties:
Outpatient: 15-20 patients/day
Inpatient: Deliveries (45-55/month), with 25-30% C-section rate (CNMs assist).
Shifts Per Month: 6 call shifts per month, 5-8 clinic shifts per month
Required Procedures:
Vaginal deliveries
C-sections (assist required)
Sterilizations, birth control, laparoscopic tubals (at Santa Cruz Surgery Center).
No abortions or postpartum tubal ligations (except during C-sections).
EMR: Cerner
Support Staff:
Clinic: Full-time ultrasonographer with 30+ years of experience, 1 RN managing diabetic patients and NSTs.
Hospital: Ultrasonographer and 24/7 anesthesia coverage (10 MDs).
Reason for Coverage: Immediate need for locum assistance to maintain patient care.
Additional information from site and requirements:
They are looking for OB's with recent laborist experience training rather than mostly Gyn and aesthetics.
Available to start as soon as credentialed.

NICU Level: III (partnership with Lucile Packard Children's Hospital Stanford).
Specialist Collaboration: Strong partnerships with Stanford and community perinatologists/neonatologists.
Patient Demographics: Mostly low-risk, underserved populations. Bilingual providers preferred.

Does the physician need to be onsite if a patient is given Pitocin (or another medication to increase contractions)? Yes, OB hospitalists are required to be in hospital during entire call shift.
