Position Title: Licensed Practical Nurse

Qualifications: Required: Licensed in the State of Indiana as a Licensed Practical Nurse. Certified in First Aid; CPR/BLS certification. Able to think independently and respond to onsite emergencies. Regular and timely attendance is required. Preferred: Licensed in the State of Indiana as a Registered Nurse; experience working with children with special needs.

Summary: This position provides direct nursing services and health related training to district staff and students.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Follow and maintain knowledge of all District policies and procedures related to the provision of health services to students. Perform health assessments and administer mandated screening: vision, dental, hearing, immunization records of each student at the school. Collaborate with family and medical professionals to formulate and implement health care plans for students. Provide immediate care for students and staff who need emergency medical treatment which may include contacting the appropriate emergency response resources for assistance. Provide care and medical support to students with chronic illnesses and extremely high-risk students including but not limited to the following conditions: allergies, asthma, diabetes, seizures and compromised immune systems illness, etc. Provide appropriate care for ill and/or injured students by administering first aid, medications and specialized medical treatments according to physician's instructions and with parental written consent. Collect and update all immunization record, both written and electronically to ensuring all students are compliant with required immunizations. Assist in providing emotional and mental health assessment involving students' health and safety including abuse (physical, sexual, drug, emotional etc.) and other health related issues to identify the problem, make treatment referral and to comply with legal requirements. Communicate with parents and staff regarding health needs. Act as a resource to promote healthy living options to students, teachers, and other school personnel on the topics of medication management, substance abuse, child abuse, growth and development, food allergies, nutrition and hygiene. Counsel students and families on health conditions and lifestyle issues including mental health, pregnancy, sexually transmitted disease and substance abuse to facilitate a healthier student population. Follow rules and regulations for the prevention and control of communicable disease. Oversee medical charts and management of student records. Administer medications within the scope of District policy(ies) and state and federal laws. Work with community agencies to provides sexual, health and relationship education to students. Assist students with feeding, hygiene, custodial care, infection control, etc. Interact courteously with students, staff and parents/guardians and resolve conflict in a professional manner. Provide medical assistance related to the implementation of the student's Individual Education Plan. Maintain confidentially regarding student health records. Must display a pattern of regular and timely attendance. Perform all other tasks as may be assigned.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Required: Licensed in the State of Indiana as a Licensed Practical Nurse.

Preferred: Licensed in the State of Indiana as a Registered Nurse.

Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.

Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

Mathematical Skills: Ability to work with mathematical concepts and basic operations of arithmetic. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional program; ability to plan and implement lessons based on division and school objectives and the needs and abilities of students to whom assigned. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, peers, parents and community; ability to speak clearly and concisely in written or oral communication.

Other Skills and Abilities: Knowledge and use of CPR, First Aid and Heimlich maneuver. Certified in First Aid; CPR/BLS certification.

Ability to visit various buildings in the district. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move and push up to 50 pounds, such as students and students in wheelchairs. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and depth perception.
