Campus Police Officer

Patrol assigned campus locations to deter crime and maintain a visible law enforcement presence Enforce federal, state, and local laws and institutional policies Respond to emergency and non-emergency calls, including medical emergencies, fires, alarms, suspicious activity, disturbances, and criminal complaints Collaborate with local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies during investigations and joint operations; apprehend criminal suspects Conduct preliminary and follow-up criminal investigations; interview victims, witnesses, and suspects; collect evidence; prepare reports Maintain public order during campus events, demonstrations, and emergencies Direct traffic during special events and provide event security Respond to fires, natural disasters, and other hazardous events Assist with disaster response and emergency management activities, including evacuations, lockdowns, shelter-in-place procedures, and disaster response Perform security checks of campus buildings, parking lots, and other facilities Provide escorts for students, employees, and visitors when requested Participate in crime prevention initiatives, safety presentations, and community outreach programs Complete incident reports, arrest reports, citations, evidence documentation, and other required records Maintain departmental equipment, vehicles, firearms, and issued protective equipment Maintain Peace Officer Standards Training certification Serve as a Campus Security Authority under the Clery Act; forward crime reports and participate in annual CSA training Participate in assessment, planning, budgeting, and professional development Perform other related duties as assigned Requirements High school diploma or GED and P.O.S.T certification is required All required education credentials, license, certification and/or registration must be submitted prior to employment Prior law enforcement experience (preferred) P.O.S.T Certified Peace Officer (preferred) Written and oral communication skills Decision making and critical thinking skills Conflict resolution skills Skill in the operation of computers and job-related software programs Customer service and community engagement skills Ability to work independently with minimal supervision Ability to work collaboratively with other campus departments and outside agencies Ability to work weekends, day, evening and morning shifts Ability to differentiate between colors Ability to complete reports according to established guidelines Ability to patrol assigned areas Knowledge of all pertinent federal, state and local laws and regulations References will be checked Post-offer criminal history records check Post-offer motor vehicle records check As applicable, post-offer/random drug testing, credit history records check, fingerprinting records check, medical examination, psychological screening, and test for deception Core Competencies Demonstrates expertise in law enforcement practices, emergency response, and community engagement while maintaining compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. Proficient in conducting investigations, preparing reports, and collaborating with various law enforcement agencies.
