Job Description
Registered Nurse (RN) - Med Surg/Tele

Job Summary

We are seeking a dedicated Registered Nurse (RN) to join our Med Surg/Tele unit. This is a night shift position that involves providing care for patients with a variety of medical conditions, including respiratory issues, chest pain, and those in observation for stress tests. The RN will be responsible for monitoring telemetry patients and managing titratable drips such as Cardizem and Amiodarone.

Shift Details

• Shift: Nights (7 PM - 7 AM)
• Guaranteed Hours: 48 hours per week
• Every Other Weekend (EOW) obligation

Unit Information

The Med Surg/Tele unit consists of two sections:

• Unit 2: 24 beds
• Unit 3: 32 beds

Nurse-to-patient ratios are:

• Days: 1:5
• Nights: 1:6

Responsibilities

• Monitor patients' vital signs and telemetry readings
• Administer medications and titrate drips per protocols
• Perform physical assessments and interpret patient data
• Coordinate care with interdisciplinary team members
• Provide patient and family education

Qualifications

• 1 year of nursing experience required
• Current certifications in BLS and ACLS
• Experience with telemetry and rhythm interpretation
• Willingness to float to multiple locations as needed

Support Staff

The unit is supported by nurse aides/patient care techs, with a ratio of 1:17. These staff assist with feeding, bathing, and basic patient care activities. Additionally, there are Tele/Monitor Techs available, although RNs are required to read their own telemetry strips, utilizing GE monitors.

Scheduling Information

• Requests for block scheduling are accommodated, with the possibility of scheduling three consecutive shifts.
• Weekend requirement: 5-6 weekend shifts every 6 weeks
• Holiday commitments are required and divided among staff.

Dress Code

RNs are expected to wear navy blue scrubs during their shifts. Scrubs are not provided.

Orientation

New hires will receive three shifts of unit-specific orientation to ensure familiarity with protocols and procedures.
