POLICE OFFICER TRAINEE If you are interested in a career in law enforcement, there is an opportunity for you to become a Police Officer Trainee in the Hercules Police Department. The Police Officer Trainee is a non-sworn individual in a trainee capacity who has not completed a Basic P.O.S.T. Academy. The primary responsibility of the Trainee is to attend a P.O.S.T. certified academy to develop the minimum qualifications necessary to assume the position as an entry level sworn Hercules Police Officer. APPLICATION PROCESS Submit a completed City of Hercules application online and attach a P.O.S.T. Entry‑Level Law Enforcement Test Battery (PELLETB) T‑Score of 45 or better (issued within the past 18 months on official agency letterhead). Candidates who do not attach a qualifying T‑Score of 45 or better on agency letterhead will not move forward in the process. All qualified applications and supplemental responses will be competitively evaluated, and only those candidates demonstrating the strongest qualifications for the position will be invited to participate in a panel interview. Candidates that pass the panel interview will be subject to an extensive background examination including a polygraph test, psychological exam, and physical. Once testing is complete the Chief of Police shall review the background and post‑conditional offer assessments and make the final determination as to whether a formal job offer is to be made. CLASS CHARACTERISTICS This is the training level in law enforcement, performing all duties required to effectively develop the minimum qualifications necessary to assume the role of a sworn Hercules Police Officer.
