Legal Internship

Job Overview HAWC provides services to victims of domestic violence. The 3:03 Certified Student Attorney Internship assists the Managing Attorney with legal services, including consultations, document drafting, and direct representation as allowed. Eligibility 2L or 3L law students eligible for SJC rule 3:03 certification, interested in practical representation in 209A and 258E civil proceedings. Responsibilities Provide support, crisis intervention, advocacy, and referral services to victims. Assist survivors in completing 209A and 258E application forms. Support attorneys during clinic consultations: drafting motions, briefs, memoranda, and immigration applications. With supervision, represent indigent plaintiffs in 209A or 258E proceedings in local courts. Conduct client meetings, intakes, and consultations per SJC rule 3:03. Assist with administrative tasks: data entry, survey collection, court data gathering, and projects. Advocate for related public policy and legislative matters. Attend trainings, continuing education, and regular supervision. Ensure client confidentiality per HAWC guidelines. Preferred Skills and Qualifications Bilingual (Spanish or Portuguese) preferred. Completed or currently enrolled in immigration or family law course. Obtained or eligible for SJC Rule 3:03 certification. Demonstrated interest in working with marginalized populations and survivors of domestic and sexual violence. Trauma‑informed legal advocacy skills. Time Commitment & Supervision Approximately 15 hours per week, flexible. Hybrid position: some in‑person at Salem or Lynn office or court hearings. 30‑hour pre‑service training required prior to client engagement. Managing Attorney provides one hour per week of individual supervision and additional as needed. Compensation Unpaid internship. #J-18808-Ljbffr
