Location: Madison, Wisconsin – This is a full-time, 100% on-site leadership opportunity where you'll collaborate closely with executives, project managers, and operations teams in a fast-paced construction environment. Note: To be considered, candidates must have at least 2+ years of Controller-level accounting experience within the construction or mechanical contracting industry. Construction accounting experience is required. Job Description Lead all accounting and financial operations for a growing construction organization. Oversee budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, cash flow management, and internal controls. Prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements. Monitor financial performance and provide recommendations to improve profitability. Manage all accounting functions including AP, AR, payroll, and general ledger. Partner with project managers to review job costing, labor analysis, and project profitability. Perform cost analysis and variance reporting to identify opportunities for improved financial performance. Support pricing strategies, forecasting, and long-term business planning. Coordinate annual audits and ensure compliance with accounting standards. Manage insurance renewals, claims, audits, and related financial activities. Develop, mentor, and lead the accounting team while fostering a collaborative work environment. Serve as a trusted financial advisor to executive leadership. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field. 2+ years of Controller-level accounting experience in construction or mechanical contracting. Strong knowledge of construction accounting, job costing, budgeting, and financial reporting. Experience managing accounting teams. Advanced Microsoft Excel skills. Experience with Sage 300 CRE is highly preferred. CPA or Master's degree is a plus. Excellent analytical, leadership, and communication skills.
