Position Overview  

As a Journeyman Electrician, you’ll independently perform skilled electrical installations while supporting safe, productive, and high-quality field execution on commercial and municipal electrical projects. 

You’ll read and apply project documents, troubleshoot electrical systems, plan tools and materials for assigned work, maintain inspection-ready workmanship, and help develop Apprentice Electricians. 

. What You’ll Do  

• Measure, cut, bend, thread, assemble, support, and install electrical conduit using EMT, PVC, rigid conduit, and other approved raceway systems
• Safely operate trenchers, mini-excavators, skid steers, and other excavation equipment when trained and authorized to support underground electrical installations.
• Lay out, excavate, install, support, and backfill underground electrical raceways and conduit systems in accordance with project drawings, NEC requirements, utility requirements, required burial depths, and project specifications.
• Verify underground routing, elevations, conduit spacing, sweeps, stub-up locations, and equipment-entry points before installation and backfill.
• Follow all excavation and trench-safety requirements, including utility-location verification, safe equipment operation, spoil placement, access/egress, trench protection, and stop-work requirements when unsafe or unknown conditions are encountered.
• Install boxes, supports, sleeves, raceways, conductors, devices, fixtures, panels, feeders, grounding and bonding systems, and related electrical equipment
• Install lighting and controls, receptacles, branch power, transformers, disconnects, panels, and other commercial electrical systems
• Support installation of switchgear, generators, automatic transfer switches, EV charging equipment, and other distribution equipment as assigned
• Read and apply electrical drawings, specifications, blueprints, one-lines, risers, panel schedules, schematics, details, and equipment documentation
• Lay out defined areas of work, including underground electrical installations
• Perform basic troubleshooting of lighting, controls, branch power, devices, circuits, and equipment
• Check completed work for quality, proper installation, labeling, support, alignment, code compliance, and inspection readiness
• Perform work in accordance with the NEC, approved plans and specifications, manufacturer requirements, project requirements, and Impower Connection standards
• Plan tools and materials before beginning assigned work and communicate shortages, conflicts, access problems, safety concerns, or coordination issues early
• Participate in testing, inspections, startup, commissioning, punch-list, closeout, service, and warranty activities as assigned
• Maintain accurate time, cost-code, production, progress, and completed-work reporting
• Maintain clean, organized, and safe work areas while protecting company tools, materials, installed work, client property, and the work of other trades
• Lead and mentor Helpers and Apprentice Electricians on assigned work
• When assigned, lead a small crew or defined work area within the Electrical Superintendent’s overall field plan

What We’re Looking For

Education

• Electrical apprenticeship completion, trade-school education, or equivalent technical training is beneficial
• Continued field, classroom, online, and on-the-job training is expected

Experience& Skills

• Valid Texas Journeyman Electrician License required
• Demonstrated ability to perform skilled electrical installations with limited supervision
• Strong working knowledge of the National Electrical Code and common electrical construction practices
• Experience installing conduit, conductors, devices, lighting, panels, feeders, grounding systems, and related commercial electrical systems
• Ability to read electrical drawings, blueprints, one-lines, panel schedules, schematics, specifications, and installation details
• Ability to lay out defined areas of electrical work
• Working knowledge of conductor sizing, raceway sizing, box requirements, circuiting, grounding, and common electrical calculations
• Basic troubleshooting capability for lighting and general-power systems
• Experience safely operating trenchers, mini-excavators, skid steers, or similar excavation equipment used for underground electrical work.
• Experience laying out and installing underground electrical conduit systems from project drawings and field conditions.
• Working knowledge of trench safety, utility-locate requirements, required burial depths, conduit spacing, sweeps, stub-ups, and equipment-entry locations.
• Ability to verify underground conduit routing and elevations before installation and backfill.
• Experience coordinating underground electrical work around existing utilities, structures, other trades, and site conditions.
• Ability to recognize unsafe excavation conditions, unknown utilities, or installation conflicts and stop work for clarification before proceeding.
• Proficiency with hand tools, power tools, conduit benders, threaders, meters, and electrical testing equipment
• Must be equipped with the hand tools required by Impower Connection policy
• Strong communication, teamwork, reliability, and problem-solving skills
• Ability and willingness to mentor Apprentice Electricians
• Valid driver’s license
• Reliable transportation
• Ability and willingness to travel and work out of town as required

Preferred Experience

• Approximately five to seven years of commercial and/or industrial electrical construction experience
• Commercial or municipal project experience
• Generator and automatic transfer switch systems
• Power distribution and switchgear
• Transformer installation
• EV charging or DC fast-charging installations
• Lighting controls
• Underground electrical layout
• Testing and commissioning
• Service and troubleshooting
• Experience mentoring or leading Apprentice Electricians
• Experience leading a small crew or defined work area 
• OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification

Work Environment

• Full-time, field-based position supporting commercial and municipal electrical projects
• Out-of-town travel and remaining away from home may be required based on project assignments
• Work takes place indoors and outdoors in typical construction-site conditions, including heat, cold, dust, noise, and changing weather
• Work requires regular standing, walking, reaching, bending, kneeling, climbing, and use of electrical tools and equipment
• Ability to lift, carry, and move tools, equipment, and materials weighing up to 50 pounds
• Work may take place from ladders, lifts, platforms, elevated areas, or in cramped and restricted work areas
• Overtime, weekends, nights, shutdowns, early starts, or modified schedules may be required based on project conditions
