Role Overview The Sr Communications Specialist is a strategic communications professional responsible for developing and executing comprehensive communications initiatives that advance organizational objectives and enhance brand reputation. The role requires exceptional writing and multimedia content creation skills, deep expertise in media relations and digital communications, and proven ability to manage complex, high‑stakes communications projects. Core Responsibilities Develop integrated communications strategies aligned with organizational goals. Lead media relations efforts: pitch stories, cultivate journalist relationships, and manage press inquiries. Design and execute digital campaigns that maximize reach and engagement across multiple platforms. Create compelling multimedia content—including copywriting, video production, photography, and graphic design using Adobe Creative Suite—while translating complex technical and policy information into clear, accessible language following AP Style standards. Provide expert crisis communications support, responding effectively under pressure to sensitive situations while maintaining organizational integrity. Manage multiple high‑priority projects simultaneously, ensuring timely delivery and brand alignment. Collaborate with stakeholders across all organizational levels to deliver effective communications solutions and mentor junior team members. Measure and evaluate communications performance using analytics platforms to assess reach, engagement, and impact. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in a related field (or equivalent work experience) and 8+ years of related experience. Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with proven ability to craft strategic messaging, press releases, talking points, and executive communications for diverse audiences. Expert knowledge of media relations, including pitching stories, managing press inquiries, and maintaining relationships with journalists and media outlets. Demonstrated expertise in digital communications strategy, social media management, content management systems, and analytics tools to measure campaign effectiveness. Advanced proficiency in multimedia content creation, including copywriting, editing, video production, photography, and graphic design using Adobe Creative Suite. Strong strategic planning abilities to develop and implement integrated communications campaigns that align with organizational goals and brand standards. Proven crisis communications and reputation management experience with the ability to respond effectively under pressure. Expert knowledge of AP Style and professional writing standards, and the ability to translate complex technical or policy information into clear, accessible language. Strong project management skills with demonstrated ability to manage multiple high‑priority projects simultaneously and meet tight deadlines. Excellent stakeholder relations skills with ability to collaborate across all organizational levels and provide mentorship to junior communications team. Proficiency in communications measurement and evaluation using analytics platforms to assess reach, engagement, and impact of communications initiatives. Preferred Qualifications Master’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, or a related field. 10+ years of progressive communications experience. Advanced proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Premiere Pro). Expert knowledge of AP Style and professional writing standards. Experience with video production and photography. Demonstrated expertise in communications analytics and measurement platforms (e.g., Google Analytics, social media analytics tools). Proven track record in strategic communications planning and integrated campaign development. Experience mentoring or supervising junior communications professionals. Strong understanding of content management systems and digital publishing platforms. Experience in a complex organizational environment with multiple stakeholders. Compensation Pay Range: $125,181.00 – $172,123.50. Base compensation is determined on a case‑by‑case basis and may vary based on job‑related knowledge, skills, education, experience, internal equity, and market competitiveness.
