About the Opportunity
Direct Counsel is seeking a Commercial Litigation Associate Attorney to join a sophisticated litigation practice in Chicago. The ideal candidate will have 4–5 years of experience handling complex business litigation and familiarity with Illinois state and federal court procedures. This role offers the opportunity to manage significant aspects of litigation matters, work directly with clients and partners, and take on increasing responsibility for case strategy and leadership.

Responsibilities

• Develop and execute litigation strategies for complex business disputes.

• Manage all phases of written and document discovery.

• Research and draft sophisticated pleadings, dispositive motions, and other court filings.

• Conduct and defend depositions and prepare witnesses for testimony.

• Appear at status conferences and hearings and argue motions.

• Coordinate with clients, opposing counsel, experts, and litigation team members.

• Provide strategic guidance throughout the litigation process.

• Lead and manage cases, oversee junior attorneys, and assume responsibility for key litigation matters.

• Participate in settlement conferences, negotiations, and trial preparation.

Qualifications

• 4–5 years of commercial litigation experience.

• Substantial experience handling complex business litigation matters.

• Familiarity with Illinois state and federal court procedures.

• Strong legal writing, oral advocacy, and analytical skills.

• Ability to independently manage significant aspects of litigation matters.

• Strong interpersonal skills, initiative, sound judgment, and a commitment to client service.

• Excellent academic credentials.

• JD from an ABA-accredited law school.

• Active membership in good standing with the Illinois Bar.

Compensation & Benefits

• Salary range of $290,000–$350,000, depending on experience and qualifications.
