Traffic Systems Technician

This position is responsible for performing technical duties in the installation, repair, operation, and maintenance of traffic control systems. This position reports to the Traffic Engineering Manager.

Essential Job Functions

• Performs technical duties in the installation of traffic signal systems and school flasher systems and reviews design plans for traffic signal systems.
• Conducts inspections and oversees contractors' for the construction of traffic signal systems.
• Performs maintenance of traffic signal systems and maintains traffic signal systems inventory.
• Exercises direct supervision over assigned personnel.
• Performs other related job duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education and Experience:

High school diploma or equivalent and two (2) to three (3) years' experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Special Qualifications:

• Possession of or ability to obtain International Municipal Signal Association (IMSA) Traffic Signal Technician Level 1 Certification within one year of employment.
• Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid Class B Commercial driver's license for the type of vehicle or equipment operated. Requirement exists at the time of hire and as a condition of continued employment.
• Two (2) to three (3) years of electrical experience
• Ability to serve in the on-call rotation.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Knowledge of the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices guidelines.
• Knowledge of traffic signal installation, maintenance, operation, and repair principles.
• Knowledge of traffic sign construction, installation, and repair procedures.
• Knowledge of relevant electrical codes and principles.
• Knowledge of safety policies and procedures.
• Knowledge of job-related tools and equipment.
• Knowledge of electrical system troubleshooting and repair principles.
• Knowledge of local government operations, policies and plans, and modern office practices and procedures.

Physical Demands

The work is very heavy work, which requires exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Work is typically performed while intermittently sitting, standing, stooping, crouching, or walking. The employee uses tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity and distinguishes between shades of color.

Work Environment

The work is typically performed in various indoor and outdoor environments, occasionally in cold or inclement weather. The employee may be exposed to noise, dust, dirt, grease, and machinery with moving parts. Work requires the use of protective devices such as masks, goggles, gloves, etc.
