Victim Services South - VOC Therapist

Summary of Functions:

Works in partnership with families, individuals, inter-Tribal departments, schools and agencies to provide team oriented "wrap around" services for victims and survivors as victims of a crime.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• To provide direct outpatient mental health therapy for victims and survivors of a crime(s).
• Must have experience with utilizing the DSM IV-TR and the Multi Axis diagnostic system.
• The mental health therapist will work collaboratively with the Kalispel Tribe Victim Assistance Services program, Cusick School District, Camas Early Learning Center and other Tribal Community service programs and other regional agencies to ensure the coordination of victim services.
• Ability to provide mental health assessments and develop treatment plans in partnership with families and other team members.
• Ability to give direction to the entire treatment team and ensure the implementation of therapeutic activities.
• Coordinate and assist in providing the community with training and prevention activities designed to educate the community on mental health issues specific to exposure and trauma as a victim/survivor of a crime.
• Maintain client records, program records and reporting in accordance with the Kalispel Tribe of Indians, Indian Health Services, the Federal government, and Washington State professional standards.
• Travel as necessary to address crisis issues or provided assessments as needed.
• Be able to testify as an expert in Indian Child Welfare (ICW) and State cases.
• To work closely with inter-Tribal departments to provide education for the department.
• Maintain records and create reports as needed to sustain grant and program funding.
• As a team member, the mental health therapist will work collaboratively with staff, colleagues, the Tribal and local court systems, and all other agencies that provide services to the Kalispel Community, as well as the community at large to ensure the coordination of victim services treatment.
• Attend training as necessary to maintain certification.
• Additional duties as assigned

Education

• Master's degree in human services, psychology, social work, individual and family trauma counseling or field directly related to victim's exposure to a crime.

Experience

• Must demonstrate prior experience providing direct service to emotionally and/or behaviorally disturbed victims.

• Requires 5 years of professional experience and competency in providing direct mental health counseling services to victims of a crime and their families.

Skills

• Must demonstrate education and specialization specific to therapy involving trauma and victimization.

Other Requirements

• Requires a license from the Washington State Department of Health as a LICSW, MHP, LMFT, Psychologist or other counseling field related to providing mental health therapy to children and adults.
• Must have or be able to obtain HIV Aids Training and a current CPR and First Aid Certification.
• Must know and practice all HIPA laws and policies.
• Must be able to pass a background check and sign a statement of confidentiality
• Must have a valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
• Must have be able to travel between Airway Heights, Spokane, Cusick and Ione, WA.

• Must be able to pass a Child Abuse and Neglect (CAN) background check.

Physical Demands

• Significant portions of the job require extended sedentary periods; constant work with computers, including extended periods of keyboarding; and repetitive motion of hands and wrists.
• This position requires the ability to bend, stoop, lift, carry, and move items weighing up to 20 pounds.
• This position requires significant amounts of standing or walking.
• This position requires local travel.
• This position requires very little out of town travel.
• This position requires the ability to safely operate a motor vehicle.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to tobacco smoke, moving mechanical parts and fumes or airborne particles. The worker is frequently subject to inside environmental conditions, which provide protection from weather conditions, but not necessarily from temperature changes, and is occasionally subject to outside environmental conditions and to wet and/or humid conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

GENERAL

Services that the Victim of Crime Therapist will incorporate within the Kalispel Tribal Court, Kalispel Tribe Victim Assistance Services and a supervisory behavioral health programs which include, but are not limited to: Child, youth and adult mental health counseling, outreach, intervention, mental health assessments, screens, evaluations, treatment planning, individual and family counseling, case management, aftercare services, and information and referral.
