Responsibilities

A day in the life of a Patient Observer at Hackensack Meridian Health includes:

• Responsible for the safety of the Patients under the direction of the Registered Nurse.
• Must be able to work in situations with isolation precautions.
• Provide frequent checks on patients that have a Patient Watch Order.
• Provide direction to patient to ensure that they do not fall or wander off.
• Record and Document patient behavior.
• Must be able to travel with patient when needed
• Other duties and/or projects as assigned.
• Adheres to HMH Organizational competencies and standards of behavior.

Qualifications

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

• High School diploma, general equivalency diploma (GED), and/or GED equivalent programs.
• The ability to stay mobile according to the patients' movement including the ability to stand for periods of time.
• Must be able to work in situations with isolation precautions.

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Preferred:

• Previous work experience in a hospital setting preferred.
• Experience as a Patient Care Technician, Nursing Assistant, Medical Assistant, EMT, Nurse Aide Training, or current Nursing/Psychology student are all preferred.

Licenses and Certifications Required:

• Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association (AHA) is required prior to performing patient observation.

Compensation Minimum rate of $17.42 Hourly HMH is committed to pay equity and transparency for our team members. Some jobs may also be eligible for performance-based incentives, bonuses, or commissions not reflected in the starting rate. Certain positions may also be eligible for shift differentials for work performed on evening, night, or weekend shifts.
