Sheet Metal Operator

This role involves setting up and operating sheet metal fabricating equipment to cut, bend, shape, and assemble metal components used in construction and mechanical systems. You will work from work orders and drawings to produce accurate parts, install completed assemblies, and ensure all finished products meet quality and safety standards in a manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities
  • Set up and operate fabricating machines to cut, bend, and straighten sheet metal according to work orders and drawings.
  • Shape sheet metal using brakes, rollers, and related equipment to achieve required dimensions and forms.
  • Use welding equipment to join sheet metal parts and create strong, precise assemblies.
  • Inspect, assemble, and smooth seams and joints, including burred surfaces, to ensure high-quality finishes.
  • Install assemblies such as flashing, wall panels, insulation, and heating and air conditioning ducts in supportive frameworks.
  • Select appropriate gauges and types of sheet metal or non-metallic materials based on product specifications and job requirements.
  • Drill and punch holes in metal for screws, bolts, and rivets using appropriate tools and equipment.
  • Trim, file, grind, deburr, buff, and smooth surfaces, seams, and joints of assembled parts using hand tools and portable power tools.
  • Follow work orders, drawings, and specifications to ensure accurate fabrication and installation.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area and adhere to all safety procedures in a manufacturing environment.
Essential Skills
  • Minimum of 1–3 years of sheet metal experience preferred.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting work orders and drawings.
  • Hands-on experience with sheet metal cutting and fabrication processes.
  • Ability to perform duct work fabrication and installation.
  • Skill in using brakes, rollers, and other sheet metal forming equipment.
  • Ability to use welding equipment to join sheet metal parts.
  • Proficiency with hand tools and portable power tools for trimming, grinding, deburring, and finishing metal surfaces.
  • Experience working in construction or related environments involving sheet metal.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work.
  • Ability to follow safety procedures and work effectively in a manufacturing setting.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Background in sheet metal fabrication for construction or mechanical systems.
  • Familiarity with installing flashing, wall panels, insulation, and HVAC ductwork.
  • Experience selecting appropriate gauges and types of sheet metal or non-metallic materials based on specifications.
  • Comfort working with drilling and punching equipment for screws, bolts, and rivets.
  • Ability to collaborate with other trades and team members in a manufacturing or construction environment.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Tuscaloosa, AL.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $26.00 - $28.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
